Attempt at writing bdist_dpkg

2003-09-23 Thread amk
[This is a repeat of a note sent to the distutils-sig. This list
seems like a better place for discussing bdist_dpkg.]

I've found myself making a lot of Debian packages for various Python modules,
so I've started working on a bdist_dpkg.py module for Distutils. Currently
it's in nondist/sandbox/Lib/ in the Python CVS; you can download
a copy from
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/python/python/nondist/sandbox/Lib/bdist_dpkg.py

BTW, this is now orphaned (##212110) in case anyone is interested.

Just a quickie: the generated rules file uses python2.2, which does not
seem to be right.

#!$%. This bug is fixed in the current CVS version, but SourceForge's
anonymous CVS is 24 hours behind the real state of the repository. This
means that unless you have CVS write access, there's no way for you to get
the current version of the code.

I've put a copy of the latest version at
http://www.amk.ca/files/python/bdist_dpkg.py .

Plus has a RC bug because of the python-gtk-1.2 migration.
