Should I expect the Geforce2MX card to work with a flat panel? I have read conflicting things about rivafb and the XF86 nv driver. Any comments would be appreciated. I don't think you want to use "UseFBDev" with nv and offb. try setting UseFBDev to false. On Tue, Feb 25, 2003 at 02:54:37AM +0100, Jos? Re: mouse button emulation not working on iBook
Just my two cents here, I use the apple key and caps lock as my right and middle buttons respectively. Many people ask why I do this, and the answer is two fold: 1) The reason I run a mac with linux rather than x86 is because I want a nice looking machine. I don't want to ruin the asthetic getting a poor looking mouse just to have extra buttons. 2) I am right handed, and when my right hand is on the mouse, I want keys I can reach easily and comfortably with the left. I don't use the apple or caps lock keys, so why not use them as mouse buttons. Interestingly, I have gotten to like this so much, I tend to really miss it when I am using a machine that *DOES* have three buttons. I have been meaning to checking into doing this with my x86 laptop. Best, Oscar. Re: sid audio problem xmms & artsdsp
By the way, I fixed the bug in xmms-arts for my own usage. I tried to email the package maintainer and never got any response. If you are interested in using xmms-arts, you can do so with this patch: http://starsky.ee.ucla.edu/~boykin/patches/xmms-arts-bigendian-patch.bz2 All it does is reverse the endianism of the audio on big endian systems. It should work fine on little and big endian systems. If you apply the patch, you will have to do aclocal && autoconf && automake. It should work then (I am not yet an expert on the autotools stuff). I *believe* I finally I have DRM and DRI set up properly. The problem is, now if I do any GL operation, the Xserver crashes immediately. I might mention, that I am also the person that is reporting that XV will basically do the same thing: cause the Xserver to exit immediately. The only thing I can point out is that I am using a (possibly?) unusal setup: a Cube, with a 22'' DFP which runs at 1600x1024 (not a 4:3 ratio). In my opinion, the free software community needs to focus on using more tools like: http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/ See: http://apple.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=66371&cid=6106901 Specifically: http://bender.ce.rit.edu/torrents/Gentoo-ppc-1.4_rc7-gnome.torrent http://bender.ce.rit.edu/torrents/Gentoo-ppc-1.4_rc7-kde.torrent This allows the *USERS* to donate bandwidth as they get the software. I think this is a great way to reduce the costs of distributing free software. How much money is spent on debian bandwidth each month? I know much of it is donated, but wouldn't it be better to focus on getting other donations (cash, travel, conferences, hardware...) and let the users pay the bandwidth costs via a P2P system? POB. DVD burning question
I am a debian user that runs a cube (which I have loved from the moment I first saw it. Anyway) I have found a source for an internal DVD-RW drive: http://www.mcetech.com/sdcube.html Two questions: 1) Does anyone have any comment on DVD burning with PPC Linux, in particular Woody? I am mostly interested in data, but I am somewhat interested in burning discs that could be used in a DVD player (video, or perhaps some way to burn my pictures onto a DVD and view them on my DVD player). 2) The installation manual: http://www.mcetech.com/pdfs/sdcube_install.pdf.sit says that the drive is an IDE Master and *CANNOT* be changed to slave. Am I going to run into any problems booting? Do I just need to do a "s/hda/hdb/" in my yaboot and /etc/fstab files? Is it going to be easy to switch my boot disk from hda to hdb? Am I correct in thinking that switching my hard disk to slave will result in it becoming hdb? Thanks for any comments! It seems that this package: http://www.tele.ucl.ac.be/PEOPLE/DOUXCHAMPS/ieee1394/coriander/ Is needed to view and control the camera. It also says it can do "V4L export to other software like Gnomemeeting, Xawtv, Effetv,... " Incidentally, Coriander is in debian. Apt-get should work! After that, when you run coriander, I hope it will be obvious what to do next. Screen shots at: http://www.tele.ucl.ac.be/PEOPLE/DOUXCHAMPS/ieee1394/coriander/picpage.html make it look like V4L export should be easy. It seems strange to me that you need a userspace application to make the camera availible as a V4L device, maybe there is another way (or plans for another way). I look forward to hearing your results! Re: iSight & Airport station.
Hmm... I have never set this up myself, but a few questions (just to make sure): 1) You do have the video1394 module loaded correct? It seems to be using the raw1394 module for the iSight, I don't know if that is a problem or not. 2) I don't know what version of Coriander you are using. The one in stable is 0.22, which seems to be 1.5 years old. Perhaps you want to download the latest version (0.99.2), and compile it yourself. (I think you will also need the latest libdc1394. Maybe this version will work better. I guess there is some chance you will also need a later version of the IEEE1394 code: http://www.linux1394.org/download.html (which means recompiling your kernel, and I don't know if there will be any problems with their IEEE1394 code and the PPC, be careful). I am really stabbing the dark here. I note that the iSight device in your devices file has 3 units directories. I guess one is the video, one is the audio, and I don't know what the third might be. Perhaps this is confusing matters. It is a shame this is not easier. I was really considering getting an iSight, so I hope you get it working. Good luck! Are you using a firewire harddrive already? If you are not (or can do without it for the moment) maybe you can rmmod sbp2 before putting the iSight in? Maybe then it will be okay. If that does work, the obviously it is some bug in sbp2. > > 2) I don't know what version of Coriander you are using. The one in > > stable is 0.22, which seems to be 1.5 years old.
