External video on a Powerbook G4.
Does anyone know if it's possible to get external video from a 12" Powerbook G4/867 with an nVidia Geforce-to-go chipset? I don't need multihead, but I need to be able to do mirroring. --Matt -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
More Powerbook Questions.
A few more questions about Debian PPC on the 12" Powerbook G4/867 I inherited at work: 1) bcm43xx seems to be _really_ flaky; I can associate with an AP, I can run iwlist, but I can't seem to actually get an address via DHCP or play any active part in the network. I'm running 2.6.18-3 from Sid; a brief Googling has implied that the module in this particular kernel is flaky, but I can't find anywhere to download a .deb of 2.6.17 to try. Is my experience unusual? Does anyone know where I can get the old kernel from? 2) Is suspend-to-RAM supported on this machine at all? When I close the lid or hit the power button it seems to simply blank the screen. Again, I've Googled, and found conflicting reports. I think that the machine type is "6,1", but it's at work and I'm at home so I can't confirm that. I'd really like to get this working as well as my faithful old Pismo (wireless, suspend, all other hardware features, etc.), but I'm not terribly encouraged so far. --Matt -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". I've been using Linux for a while now, but mostly on servers so I'm not as concerned about the laptop hardware support software. That, of course, means I'm not as familiar with it. I'll try out the wireless stuff with another network or two. It would be unfortunate if I can't use it with the wireless at work, but it will be good to know if that's where the problem lies. As I said in my earlier message, it's sort of odd that I can associate with an AP, but I can't get any sort of DHCP lease traffic to work. I suppose the next step would be to fire up Wireshark and see if the packets are making it to the PB at all. As for the swsusp, I've never used it, but I'll look for it in the etch repositories and see what comes up. Thanks again, everyone! --Matt -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: mozilla-firefox: crash on extension installation
I can't even get any themes to install -- Firefox dies silently every time I try. --Matt On May 31, 2004, at 5:28 PM, Mike Small wrote: Yes, I see the same thing trying to install adblocker. Rhythmbox skipping.
I'm trying to play mp3s from a SMB mount over 802.11b (my Powerbook's internal Airport card). For some reason, they skip terribly under Rhythmbox, but sound fine under XMMS or JuK. Unfortunately, I really prefer the interface of Rhythmbox to either of the other two, and would prefer to use that. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can improve Rhythmbox's performance so that I can use it without the audio dropping out? --Matt
Rhythmbox gdesklets.
I'm running gdesklets under Windowmaker because I wanted a more compact interface to leave in the corner of the screen for Rhythmbox. The problem is, no matter what gdesklet I get, it won't display the artist and track information for the currently playing mp3. The controls all work as expected, but for some reason the track info portion of the gdesklet just says "Not Playing?". Has anyone seen this before? More importantly, does anyone know how to fix it? --Matt
OpenOffice Impress compatible remotes?
I'm going to be teaching an introductory Computer Science class in the fall, and I'm using OpenOffice Impress on my Debian Powerbook for a lot of the lecture material. Does anyone know of a brand of wireless remote that works with this presentation software? I'd rather not be locked behind the podium while I'm teaching. I thought that it would be a pretty platform-independent thing, but I just tried a (pricy!) Interlink model and it didn't work at all. I'd rather have confirmation from someone of a model that works before I drop fifty dollars or more on it. Thanks for your help. --Matt
Power meter.
I'm using Debian/PPC on a Pismo laptop in a course I'm teaching this semester. In addition to showing programming examples and such, all of my presentations are done on the Pismo in OpenOffice Impress. There's something on the machine -- it might be pbbuttonsd, wmbatppc, gtkpbbuttons, or something else - that's flashing the current battery level at the top of the screen every few minutes. It's two horizontal bar graphs, because I use two batteries, scaled to represent the amount of charge left in each battery. As you might guess, this is rather distracting for my class when I'm lecturing. Does anyone know how I can get rid of these? --Matt
IBM JDK.
I'm running the Blackdown 1.3.1 JDK under Debian on my Powerbook, and I'm noticing some anomalous behavior with a couple of Java apps that I need for a class. These same apps work fine under the 1.4x Java installed in the computer labs at the college I work for. I've heard people mention on this list that they are running IBM's Java package rather than the (elderly) Blackdown one. Unfortunately, I cannot for the life of me find a download link for it on IBM's site. Could someone please point me in the right direction so that I can get this installed and do some work without having to drive to the college? Thanks a lot, --Matt
