ibook G4 X Window doesnt start

2004-01-06 Thread Francisco J. F. Serrador
Hello

I'm still trying to get X window working without success.

I downloaded dri-trunk packages and compiled them.
I can insmod radeon.o from dri-trunk without aparent problems

When I startx, I get: "Fatal server error:
   Caught signal 11. Server aborting"

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Conection reset by peer) en Xserver ":0.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

can you anyone tell me what does it mean and what should I do next?

OK, I recompiled the kernel and uninstalled dri-trunk-sid.

The log says thatit cannot find a valid framebuffer device.

I'm booring with append="radeonfb=video" option.

¿How can I tell the server the framebuffer to use?

# example XF86Conf-4 file for DRI with a Radeon chip

# specifically, this is for a Titanium PowerBook III, but you should get the
idea for others :)

Still it appears to have problems finding the framebuffer device.

I attach a log file. There you can see the framebuffer device is not
found while loading module "fbdevhw" (This is my interpretation, but i'm
not a Xfree expert)

Re: ibook G4 X Window doesnt start (SUCCESS)

2004-01-10 Thread Francisco J. F. Serrador
Michel, thanks for your help and time.

It was the radeonfb module, that must not be compiled as module, but
inside the kernel.

Re: IBook G4, kernel 2.6, DRM, Xfree86 and some questions ???

I had the same problem.

Check that radeonfb is compiled inside the kernel, not as module, and
that you boot with append="video=radeonfb" in the kernel.

The chipid is 0x514d
