hi! i found an article on a german mac site about one week ago. there was a report about apple users, who had problems with ibook batteries and had them replaced by apple. there was also a link to apple's discussion site http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449 i read it very quickly, but it might be useful! it describes how to reset the pmu bye, clemens On Thu, Mar 20, 2003 at 08:46:25PM +0100, Mich Lanners wrote: > On 20 Mar, this message from Michel Dänzer echoed through cyberspace: > > On Don, 2003-03-20 at 11:42, Edward G. Ext. Monitor and new ATI code
hi! there was a lot discussion on using an external monitor on an ibook2 with a M7. my question: are there some improvements with the new code (eg: a kind of working m7mirror), or was the code only about sleeping? bye clemens
Re: ibook and airport support
Hi, Frank! This problem is only with the new (Airport extreme) cards which fit the new powerbook models. all ibook2 models need an airportcard, which works perfectly under linux. (i am writing this email lying on a couch in my livingroom using an ibook2 linux and airport) what you have to do: compile a kernel with airport-support get wireless-tools (apt-get install wireless-tools) after booting your new kernel type: /sbin/modprobe -k airport /sbin/ifdown eth0 /sbin/ifconfig eth1 (your_ip) up /sbin/iwconfig eth1 essid (your_SSID) /sbin/iwconfig eth1 key (your_wep_key) /sbin/route add default gw (your_gateway_ip) i used this excellent site: http://www.pl-berichte.de/t_hardware/airport.html (it is in german) but there are many others bye clemens On Fri, May 02, 2003 at 09:36:57PM +0200, Frank Gevaerts wrote: > Hi, > > I am thinking about buying an airport card for my ibook2 (or is it 3? harware: use ethernet (twisted or not) software: run a ssh-server on the debian box (it should be running per default - check with: ps ax |grep sshd) get a ssh client for the windoze box (i use pscp - search using google) start the client an the windoze box and transfer your files bye clemens PS: there are other ways to eg: ftp - the risk of your data getting sniffed is very low if you direct-connect your boxes ;-) On Sat, Jul 05, 2003 at 11:43:09AM -0400, Nirmal Govind wrote: > Hi.. does anyone know how I can connect my ibook running Debian PPC to a PC > running Windows XP so that I can transfer files between the two? Re: connecting a Mac to a PC
you have to assign ip adresses in the same subnet: eg: 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 with a subnetmask 255.255.255.0 which means that everything in the range 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.254 is in your nertwork after assigning the IP properly check, weather you can ping the other box. type: ping 192.168.0.1 (or the ip of the other box) in a shell and in a DOS box and see, weather there is a reply! if you want detailed instructions on networking, tell me PS: as otheres said smbmount is also possible, but i think scp is the easyest way, plus it is secure, so it is good to get used to it.
