Re: [PATCH} Re: www.d.o: PowerPC installation pages need update
This typo goes through all linux for power documentations i've ever seen. IBM never had a machine called 7044-260. So it should probably be the 7043-260, which is a power3 machine. And it runs debian with some diffculties in installation, but it runs. Doing a google for 7044-260, one gets 87 hit versus 3410 hits for 7043-260. So some seem to have the same typo :-) Regards, Ralph > -Urspruengliche Nachricht- > Von: Shyamal Prasad [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Gesendet: Freitag, 26. The crazy thing is, that even if I use the currently running kernels config to build a new kernel, I have the same problem. Maybe there's something broken in the combination 2.6.11 compiling with gcc 4. As You can see in the good kernels log, the working kernel's VFS mounts cramfs from ramdisk as root first, which the new one doesn't... But see the config I attach below, if You find something bad. > > > BTW I just want to build my own kernel to get rid of > > the IDE support in the original kernel, since the "noprobe" > > kernel argument doesn't work and this adds about 2 minutes > > boot time for probing something, that isn't really there. > > Maybe noprobe is fixed in a newer kernel, but as far as I know, > > 2.6.11 is the last 32bit-smp-kernel. Ok, I know that the 64-bit machine can run 32-bit code, but will the old 32-bit machine be able to run code compiled on the 64-bit machine ? I know, that there's a way to build a toolchain for "crosscompiling" but i wanted to get around this. If we have no other chance, i'll use the new kernels and do that. Interrupts lost on IDE disks in RAID1 array
Hi, I have a RAID1 setup on a BeigeG3, with one disk on /dev/hda, and the second one on /dev/hdc. The machine does not seem to like the setup, however, because I often get the following error : ide-pmac lost interrupt, dma status: 8080 hdc: lost interrupt hdc: dma_intr: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest } ide: failed opcode was: unknown This happens at random intervals, and is _very_ annoying. I already tried to change the disk & the cables, to no avail. In fact, I'm a bit desperate here, and I'd like to know if this is a kernel:settings problem (which would be fixable), or a hardware limitation: maybe this machine does not support DMA2 on two controllers ? There are other devices on the two IDEs : /dev/hdb is a CDROM drive (DMA1), and /dev/hdd an IDE ZIP drive. Removing them does not help... Thanks for any info/pointers on this. You *definitely* want to fix/add suspend handling (unless you did that in 0.02, which I don't have yet), it was just using 72% CPU time used for just hard interrupts (all as BAD in /proc/interrupts though), until I shut down my machine (which took few minutes). ibook G4 & synaptic touchpad
Hi, I have patched my kernel and the xfree86-synaptics-driver package with Luca Bigliardi's patches to use synaptics driver on my iBook but my trackpad don't want to work well... Some problems are: - When I boot the kernel and X start for the first time the trackpad don't work. The pointer remain in the center of the screen and the trackapd starts working only if I suspend my iBook. - The emulation of right and middle button don't work every time. I have followed every instruction, modified my xorg.conf and patched everything... Only one thing work well: the scroll! What can I do?
