Easy way to retrieve build logs from buildd.d.o?
Hello all, Is there an easy way to retrieve the build logs for a given package as plain text files from buildd.debian.org? For example, for one of my packages I want to compare one output of the configure script on all architectures for one specific version. It would be helpful for this if the build logs were available on my local machine for grep'ing. Since I didn't know an easy way to retrieve those build logs, I wrote a small and simple shell script that does what I needed; it is attached and can be used like this: # Retrieve all build logs of the package hello. $ getbuildlog.sh hello # Retrieve mips and mipsel build logs of hello 2.2-{1,2}. $ getbuildlog.sh hello '2\.2-.' 'mips(|el)' Do you think this script would be a useful addition for devscripts? Cheers, -- Frank S. So if you are an interested sponsor, please have a look at my package, which is available here: http://pkg-boinc.alioth.debian.org/debian/dists/unstable/main/source/kboincspy_0.9.1-4.dsc and here is the changelog entry: kboincspy (0.9.1-4) unstable; urgency=low . * Added Russian translation (ru.po) from upstream's SVN. * debian/manpages/kboincspy.xml: - Fixed typo and added more generic options. - Removed < and > before and after elements because docbook2x-man adds those now itself. - Made elements empty if their content was the same as the content of their url attribute. * debian/control.in: - Removed nvidia-glx from Build-Conflicts because #208198 was fixed in nvidia-graphics-drivers/1.0.8774-4 but etch has 1.0.8776-4. - Added XS-Vcs-Svn and -Browser fields to the source stanza. - Set "Debian BOINC Maintainers <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>" as Maintainer and moved myself to Uploaders. - Replaced ${Source-Version} with ${binary:Version} because the former variable is now deprecated. * debian/copyright: - Added copyright note about the Debian packaging. - Removed full text of the GFDL and added a pointer to /usr/share/common-licenses/GFDL-1.2. * debian/watch: - Use a more strict regex that does not match KBoincSpy Mini tarballs. * Switched patch system from simple-patchsys to quilt. * Bumped debhelper compatibility level from 4 to 5 since this is the current recommended level. Ok, I nearly finished it :) It is written in Python and is called "dctrl2xml". Binary and source packages are apt-getable from my private repository: http://www.thomas-alfeld.de/frank/download/debian/ Once installed, one can type: ~$ apt-cache show hello | dctrl2xml This prints an XML representaion of the package 'hello' to stdout. ~$ dctrl2xml -f This prints all packages listed in file as XML to stdout. may be compressed with gzip/bzip2. ~$ dctrl2xml --help Prints the help message. If there are non-ascii encoded chars in dctrl2xml's input the character encoding must be specified: ~$ apt-cache show maint-guide-de | dctrl2xml -e latin1 The default encoding is utf-8. I could successfully convert sid's binary-i386/source package files into XML. However, because dctrl2xml builds up a dom tree of all packages in these files, this is horribly slow. There may also be some cases where dctrl2xml will fail. Comments about the script and the package are appreciated. Grüße, Frank -- Nunc vino pellite curas! -- Horaz

Using Python's DOM is (as far as I can see) the easiest and robust way to accomplish the task. It is working but slow if it processes a file with more than 8000 package records. But this was never my goal, I only wanted to convert files with about 20 package records. If a user requests stream-like behaviour, because it fails in its current implementation, I'll probably change it. RFC: KBoincSpy package
Hi mentors, I have packaged KBoincSpy[0] for Debian. KBoincSpy is a KDE based monitoring utility for the BOINC[1] client. BOINC itself is the software platform for distributed computing that is used by projects like [EMAIL PROTECTED], Climateprediction.net or [EMAIL PROTECTED] KBoincSpy is the successor of KSetiSpy, a monitoring utility for the old classic [EMAIL PROTECTED] client, and IMHO the best BOINC GUI for Unix-like operating systems. Its plugin based design makes it very flexible and the use of KIO slaves even let you monitor remote clients. As I said before, I have packaged KBoincSpy for Debian and would appreciate it if someone could have a look at this package. Hmm, now it builds fine. I have downloaded the source package again and did the same I've done before. No errors occurred this time while building the package. -Frank -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I asked for a sponsor back in november in debian-mentors and debian-kde, but did not recieved any replies. I thought everyone is busy squashing their RC bugs for the Sarge release. I'll continue searching for a sponsor, but won't flood debian-mentors or others with my RFS. I also tagged my ITP with "patch" to get listed at Justin's page (http://rtfo.org/~justin/itp+patch/sponsor-needed.html), but it seems that only a few developers know his page. > > As I said before, I have packaged KBoincSpy for Debian and would > > appreciate it if someone could have a look at this package. I have imported the whole KBoincSpy source into a Subversion repository, so that I can reverse all changes made to the source. Maybe multiple patches is a nicer approach, but directly modifying the source is IMHO easier. I'll take your remarks into consideration at the next upstream release, which will probably be short after [EMAIL PROTECTED] goes public. > - The package recommends boinc-client, but where is this package available? > A comment in the description, or in README.Debian, will be great for a > BOINC newbie. Your are absolutely right, I'll add a notice to the README.Debian. At the moment there is only a source package, called boinc-public, available which creates the boinc-client binary package: http://bioinformatics.pzr.uni-rostock.de/~moeller/debian/boinc/ Maybe there will be BOINC source and binary packages soon at: http://pkg-boinc.alioth.debian.org > - The override for 'desktop-file-in-wrong-dir' is unneeded if you patch the > Makefile.am for installing in the xdg_apps directory (which is correct, of > course). I was already using xdg_apps, but lintian complained about the other .desktop files, that are installed into /usr/share/services and /usr/share/servicetypes. I'll check again at the next lintian upgrade and will remove this override if the warnings disappear. Thanks for replying and looking at my package, I appreciate that! -Frank

You need to provide the source package (.dsc, .orig.tar.gz, .diff.gz) which would be needed for a full upload. No potential sponsor will upload a binary only package. GrÃÃe, Frank -- Frank S. Re: splat package

Because it is less confusing for your non-Debian users. Your are producing source archives which have the debian revision included in their filename, like splat-0.1-2.tar.bz2. Imagine you release a new revision of the Debian package only with changes in the debian/ directory. You'd probably call it splat-0.1-3.tar.bz2 and all your non-Debian users will think that there is a new splat version available and download/install it. But what do they gain? Changes in the debian packaging they don't care about. I'll consider this as an extra burden you put on your users. GrÃÃe, Frank -- Frank S.
