A quick glance at the package made me conclude two things: - It seems you did a good job fixing lots of things, making the package much better. - This is not an NMU upload, but a QA upload. If the maintainer is indeed MIA, that's fine, but he might not be, so I'm currently not sponsoring this. QA team, how should this be handled? Do we wait for you to confirm MIA-ness, or do you upload the package yourself if he is MIA? Has anyone pinged Eduardo recently? This is an important package, which needs proper maintainance. The upload should probably be sponsored via debian-multimedia rather than QA. Opinions, Offers? :) cheers, tim I have heard back from Eduardo. He has apparently been absent due to some personal issues. Sounds like he is happy/willing to have co-maintainers, etc so might make sense for the multimedia team to contact him? I think he is going to let the current delayed upload go through so if you folks want to act, you may want to do it quickly. Thanks Tim! It isn't. Quick intro: - Client-side PostgreSQL applications (which use libpq-dev) should usr /usr/bin/pg_config. This is the case for the vast majority of packages which deal with PostgreSQL. - Server-side packages like plr need to use the major version specific pg_config in /usr/lib/postgresql//bin/pg_config. This schema makes it possible to build server-side extensions for multiple major versions (like 8.2 and 8.3 at the moment), while not being major version specific in libpq-dev. Thus you should do -PGXS := $(shell pg_config --pgxs) +PGXS := $(shell /usr/lib/postgresql/8.2/bin/pg_config --pgxs) Martin Ah, that makes more sense. I'll fix it up and re-upload. Thanks! In terms of attending to a package that might be removed before the next release, maybe. You could have fixed E: alml: duplicate-conffile /etc/texmf/texmf.d/94alml.cnf though and you probably want to write changelog entries for updating standards-version in a way that one can tell whether and which changes you made in order to adapt to the standards. I don't know if you got it but the upload was rejected because I made it a non-native package and it can't find the orig.tar.gz. I was thinking this morning that I'm not sure that is even viable since it is the same version. Is that allowable?? Somehow I missed the lintian error. Was that on the .deb itself?? Thanks!! It is also complaining about a large /usr/share, so I'm wondering if it should be split into a -data package or something? It was installing everything under usr/lib/ previously. At least a -data package should be splitted of; one could even consider to splitt of the documentation in a sepperate package. While takling about it, I don't like the places you install your the files under /usr/share. While it is okay to install stuff at /usr/share/tkgate-1.8.7, I would search for the documentation in /usr/share/doc/tkgate/. The least thing you should do is to install a symlink in /usr/share/doc/tkgate/. Fair enough. Uhm... and I just compiled and installed the package. Oh, you remove it in debian/rules? Any reason for that? Gah, that's new. I ripped it out because lintian was complaining that it was an extra license file. Looking at the rules-file, I wondered about that: # The following line is just here to make lintian happy chmod +x $(CURDIR)/debian/tkgate/usr/share/tkgate-1.8.7/scripts/tree.tcl chmod +x $(CURDIR)/debian/tkgate/usr/share/tkgate-1.8.7/scripts/elistbox.tcl While it is not a bug, I think I would have used a lintian override for that ;) Other remarks: - it build depends on tcl8.4 | tcl8.3 (and tk). AFAIK tcl8.3 is to be dropped for lenny, and tcl8.5 is the new standard tcl. So please adjust the build-depends accordingly (see mail send to debian-devel-announce a couple of days ago). Yeah, I wondered about that, thanks. - The watchfile is broken Hmm, I had it working. I'll check that too. - The URL mentioned in the packages long description has been moved; please change that or drop the sentence completly (since the homepage is allread mentioned with it's own field). Grr, I thought I removed that. - debian/copyright is wrong; the files I checked under src/tkgate are gpl-2 or later. I think it should be mentioned that way (and the pointer to the common licenses adjusted). I thought I left the link to GPL? Yours sincerely, Alexander Thanks for looking at this! A library could well have a serious bug that is fixed in Debian before being fixed upstream and the program may need the fixed version. e.g. an unintended API breakage can be reverted. In that case, 1.2.3-1 is borked but 1.2.3-2 is fine (as is 1.2.2-8 and, hopefully, 1.2.4-1). Other candidates can be broken pkgconfig files, out of date autotools stuff, transitions in build tools themselves . . . Generally, though, Build-Depends versions come directly from whatever build system is used upstream (and can be omitted completely if Debian does not have anything older than the minimum required version specified in the build system - that includes testing, stable and oldstable so is quite rare). Why would -3 be any better than -1? There shouldn't be any API/ABI changes between Debian revisions should there? Should be - no. Can be - yes, usually trying to fix a mistake upstream. Obviously, I guess it makes sense if there was some specific bug fix but it still seems like a bad idea, but what do I know? :) Unless there is a *specific* reason for the Debian revision to be included, it should be omitted. Packages that do include the revision should not be assumed to be buggy merely due to the presence of such a revision although it is sensible to check that the revision is actually necessary. OK, I have put back the -3 build-dep and left the -1 removed. Also, I have talked to some mono folks and the warnings on dh_makeclideps is OK. I've added foo.dll.config files to handle it but the warnings still exist. I'm told this is OK. I'll gladly sponsor the ones you want to do and help with the others if necessary. Volker is a university professor and has been too busy for Debian (and other free-software projects) for some time. Pretty much all the packages he is listed as being the maintainer for are part of the SynCE[0] suite (but not the actual SynCE libraries or daemons). The last time I spoke to him was about a year ago when he said it was fine that I took over any of his packages. I have now adopted the important SynCE packages I can maintain (with him as the co-maintainer for some). I am sure he wouldn't mind if his packages were adopted by others. You may be interested to know that I am going to request the removal of vdccm (no longer maintained; made obsolete by odccm) and synce-kde (no longer maintained; made obsolete by synce-kpm which is not in Debian yet) as they are both leaking RC bugs. RFS: QA Upload: libggi -- General Graphics Interface runtime libraries
Hi folks, I've been working on this sucker for days and I think I've taken it about as far as I care too. There are still a couple of lintian warnings but I am not sure I can spend the time working on debconf for a package I don't maintain. If someone has time to review and/or possibly upload I would appreciate it. http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libggi/libggi_2.2.2-1.dsc Description: General Graphics Interface runtime libraries "General Graphics Interface" - a fast, portable graphics environment. .
