Why do you patch the gemspec for the description? if the description is not suitable for the debian package, you should change it in debian/control directly. Hi again, in my understanding, there is no plan to promote the machine-readable format for debian/copyright defined by DEP 5 in the Debian policy. I think that a good parallel is the format of the Debian changelog. It now became so common that it would be disruptive to change it, and therefore alternative formats were eventually removed from Policy in 2009. I think that the machine-readable debian/copyright format specified in DEP 5 is far from that point. Re: Plans for rails & wheezy (Was: RFS: ruby-activemodel)
Hi, I don't think it's good idea to have a dozen of rails versions in wheezy. We still need 2.3 (redmine) and basically I am waiting for 3.1 to go gold to upload it to unstable skipping the 3.0. Also since we need multiple versions in the archive the package name has to be versioned. So please don't upload. Ruby is API mess even without multiple rails versions. Re: RFS: open-axiom
Hi, David. Thanks for your reply. I have fixed all lintian issues, except two: 1. image-file-in-usr-lib (e. g. usr/lib/open-axiom/share/hypertex/bitmaps/anna_logo.xbm) 2. unusual-interpreter + script-not-executable (e. g. usr/lib/open-axiom/algebra/D02EJFA.fasl) The first one requires deep patching of OpenAxiom sources, and is a part of more general problem, which I will address to upstream. (this problems was partially solved specially for Debian in SVN commmit #2299.) If it absolutely necessary, it can be solved by symlink. The second is a feature of SBCL: *.fasl files are compiled lisp code, and they must have a special header. Changing shebang makes SBCL core unhappy: >> System error: # contains an illegal byte in the FASL header at position 0: Expected 35, got 10. The history of changes: https://github.com/ip1981/open-axiom-debian/commits/master/ As for relationship between OpenAxiom and Axiom, AFAIK: * OpenAxiom continues to use language Boot * OpenAxiom going away from literate programming * OpenAxiom uses C++ where Axiom uses shell, OpenAxiom uses autotools, thus OpenAxiom is more portable, e. g. it has Windows version. * OpenAxiom has very responsive maintainers, when I worked on my book on Axiom, on gentoo ebuild, on Debian package, all my questions were answered, all found issues were resolved nearly in real time :-) 2011/8/23 David Bremner > On Mon, 22 Aug 2011 19:54:42 +0400, Игорь Пашев > wrote: > > > I am looking for a sponsor for my package "open-axiom". > > > > * Package name: open-axiom > >Version : 1.4.1+svn~2299-1 > > Hi Igor; > > Thanks for working on this, and for making a source package. I'm not sure yet about the best way to support this, or even about supporting it directly at all. The problem is that each package has a different strategy for implementing multiple package. For example this one package has both code under lib/ _and_ subpackages under subdirectories. What I would do is keep using gem2deb but add a special installation step before the default gem2deb installation step, something like this: PACKAGES = \ oa-basic \ oa-core \ oa-enterprise \ oa-more \ oa-oauth \ oa-openid override_dh_auto_install: for pkg in $(PACKAGES); do dh_install -p ruby-$$pkg $$pkg/lib/* /usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby; done dh_auto_install Of course, you will need to add the appropriate binary package stanzas to debian/control, and check the dependencies for each sub-package, and make sure the tests for all of them are run during package build. -- Antonio Terceiro signature.asc Description: Digital signature
