- Try running with -I, it will tell you that the manpage does not escape
minus signs properly, so they could end up as hyphens. (Every - that
should be pasteable somewhere else as minus should be \-)

- also the last options seem to miss their .TP, so --passcode and
  --passphrase are rendered as suboptions to --card

- What is "fallowing" ??

- why the the " ." at the end of the description?
  (also some double-spaces in that file that confuse me)

- debian/copyright still has the "It was downloaded from" in it, but
not where it was downloaded from.

- an watch file would be nice, assuming there is a place to download it
from...

- having build-arch and build-indep would be nice. That package does not
  actually need them, but when all new package have them, future usage
  of that might be easier.

- maybe more, run out of time looking at it here...

  Upstream Author : Jörg Anders <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL :
http://vsr.informatik.tu-chemnitz.de/staff/jan/nted/nted.xhtml

* License : GPL
  Section : sound

It builds this binary package:
nted   - Musical score editor

The package appears to be lintian/pbuilder/piuparts clean.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:

main contrib non-free

- dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/n/nted/nted_0.9.2-1.dsc

This is my fourth try at finding a sponsor for this package.
Issues solved since the last try[1]:

[pabs review][2]
* debian/rules, debian/watch, debian/nted.1: superfluous comments removed.
* man/nted.1:
  - Man page integrated upstream
  - Typo in the date fixed
* po/Makefile.am patched upstream so that debian/dirs isn't necessary
anymore

[Erik Schanze review][3]
* No more "const char *" warnings
* po/de.po, po/nl.po: author field

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Some comments on your package:

debian/copyright contains boilerplate that you should *READ*, take
action and then remove!

remove the configure target if debian/rules, it isn't used

the short description should not just be the first line of the long
description. use something like "display IMAP quota status in icedove"

You run dh_installman while not installing any manual pages, why?

Why is the package arch any? none of the installed files seem to be
architecture specific

You run dh_strip on a package that should be arch all, why?

You run dh_installexamples while not installing any examples, why?

The upstream tarball doesn't seem to have any copyright information or
a licence, so by default we have no right to distribute it. No sponsor
should upload this package.

The upstream tarball has a prebuilt .jar that contains a DEADJOE file,
upstream should remove that DEADJOE file. It would be nice if upstream
could release a *source code* tarball as well as the prebuilt jar.

You don't include a debian/watch file and a debian/rules
get-orig-source target that knows how to recreate your .orig.tar.gz
from the files that upstream provides.

This maight not be enough.

In fact PHP's include expand symlink paths to originals paths, so you might
also need to add symlinks to /usr/share/../ at /var/cache/../, in case those
files include themselves files from /usr/share/.../

That doesn't exist, here are some comments on the one that does:

Be sure to send the manual page upstream, and maybe the patch is also
appropriate.

Your patches should document why they were added to the package and
who wrote them.

You might want to add this to your ~/.quiltrc and regen the patches:

QUILT_REFRESH_ARGS="-p0 --no-timestamps --no-index"

These help in creating patch files that are more friendly to people
using interdiff on your diff.gz.

Lintian warnings when run with -I:

I: daemonlogger: hyphen-used-as-minus-sign
usr/share/man/man1/daemonlogger.1.gz:45
I: daemonlogger: hyphen-used-as-minus-sign
usr/share/man/man1/daemonlogger.1.gz:71
I: daemonlogger: hyphen-used-as-minus-sign
usr/share/man/man1/daemonlogger.1.gz:72

No need to install the NEWS file

The readme says: "This code is largely untested and probably
completely shoddy. YMMV.", is it really that untested? Presumably you
have tested it yourself and can patch that statement out?

The upstream source tarball contains ._COPYING and ._ChangeLog - I
assume these are from MacOS X, please ask upstream to remove them in
the next version (teaching them about "make dist" should be enough).

When building, I see this:

cc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -g -Wall -O2 -g -O0 -Wall -I/usr/include -c
daemonlogger.c
cc  -g -Wall -O2 -g -O0 -Wall -I/usr/include  -L/usr/lib -ldumbnet -o
daemonlogger daemonlogger.o  -lpcap -ldumbnet

IIRC, debian policy is to use -O2 unless DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=noopt is
set, please fix this to use only one -OX flag and check if noopt
works.

I'm not very keen on python so I really have no idea about what
packaging python libraries require (it is actually confusing the fact
that there are three debhelpers for it: dh_python, dh_pysupport and
dh_pycentral).

I took a quick look at your package and here are some notes:

* Doesn't seem to require python-all-dev:

--

* .orig contains a debian/ directory, please contact upstream and tell
them ship the man page as upstream and not ship the debian directory
in their tarballs (it is not recommended and it _IS_ the real source
of lintian's warning: debian/files is in upstream's tarball).

* .orig.tar.gz and upstream's .tar.gz differ (and they shouldn't):
$ md5sum *0.5*.tar.gz
345d735076c6dda6a86db604612c6f39  wxglade_0.5.orig.tar.gz
705855ef251053bd6b032bc5667cea19  wxGlade-0.5.tar.gz

* there's a new upstream version

I personally recommend you to either contact upstream so they don't
ship debian/ and make a new package from scratch (preserving the
changelog file). If you have any doubt you can always ask on
[EMAIL PROTECTED] or even ask your co-maintainer (he's a DD
anyway).

Some comments on your package:

lots of commented out stuff in debian/rules that doesn't need to be there

copyright file looks like a good candidate for reformatting as per
http://wiki.debian.org/Proposals/CopyrightFormat

might want to add http://www.ubrowser.com/llmozlib.php as the homepage
field (see http://wiki.debian.org/HomepageFieldHOWTO)

I think it is a good idea to change the long descriptions so that they
are not mostly copies of each other.

is "so name so name" in debian/changelog a typo?

The NEWS and README files need not be installed, one is zero bytes and
the other contains no information that is useful to people who aren't
compiling from source.

You do not include a debian/watch file, please read the uscan manual
page and add one.

Where did the orig.tar.gz really come from? I can only find tarballs
and zip files that use dates as version numbers instead of 1.1.1-2.

 I am Having trouble getting this to build I asked in #debian-devel and they
said i should edit the upstream makefiles fixed to support $DESTDIR. I did
and that fixed the permissions error I was having but another error popped
up that
   I'm unable to figure out http://pastebin.com/f39e3bcaf. I have tried
creating those directories in debian/rules but still nothing. Does anyone
have any idea what could be causing this? I apologize for uploading a
package that doesn't work but I really thought it would. Any suggestions as
to what is causing this error would be most welcome.

Regards

Matt Arnold
