Debian already has a perfectly good installer, and porting Anaconda itself to Debian would amount to a monumental project (c/t Progeny). I could have ripped the isomd5sum bits out of the anaconda tarball and packaged that, but that would have amounted to a fork, which I didn't see as necessary. That was the conclusion I was coming to. If I run lintian v1.23.8 (sarge) on my -5 package, I get the warning W: flexbackup source: build-depends-without-arch-dep but if I run lintian v1.23.24 (sid), I don't. There have been many changes to linitian since v1.23.8 regarding Build-Depends and Build-Depends-Indep, particularly at v1.23.21. So it appears I should believe my sid version and ignore mentors.d.o in this case since the upload is intended for unstable. -- KBK -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". It is a little slow, but it seems like there is work being done. Have you contacted the people in the report? If you wish to take over you should really contact them and then either with their permission, or after some time with no response, take over the ITP. Are your packages based on those mentioned in the bug report? > > I don't think that the mentioned license problems are relevant. This > package includes some source files with different licenses but all are > free. (See the copyright file for details) If the information there is accurate then it looks OK to me, but I am definately not an expert. However I can't see a license for the Sparkle stuff for instance. Also you are missing all copyright information for the files. You also assert copyright of the Debian packaging, does this mean it is not based on the other packages of the software? You also chose GPL v2, when that is not one of the many licenses in use. There's no problem with that, but I like to use licenses that are in keeping with the spirit of the package itself. As for getting a sponsor. I can't do it as I'm not a DD, and I'm not sure whether another DD would do it if you haven't talked to the other interested people. I think your best bet would be one of the two DDs that have already expressed an interest in the package. Everything I've read so far indicates that the only way to go about this is grab the kernel source and enabled the high mem option and recompile the kernel. -- o) Derek Wueppelmann (o (D . IMO you should keep the file as small as possible. BTW: I played it a little and I hate this "Won't give you this one!". I loose and loose and loose, but if you like it... ;-) Kindly regards, Erik -- www.ErikSchanze.de * Bitte keine HTML-E-Mails! No HTML mails, please! Limit: 100 kB * - Linux-Info-Tag in Dresden, am 8. I will rewrite debian/copyright file, written by last maintainer, to fix this misunderstandings, including all copyright holders (and dates). -- bye, - Nacho -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Yes, that is true. I thought the point of team maintainence was to do things as a team, and try and concentrate the skills/interests where they are required. If you find a sponsor here then it is great, but I assume that any DD who is a member of the games team has an interest in games, and experience with the packaging of them, two things that I assume that an sponsor will consider when looking at whether to upload a package. I uploaded to mentors a new package [1] which fix all this issues (and the suggested by James). I'm pending upstream's confirmation about license terms. RFS: isomd5sum (formerly anaconda)
Greetings James, Thank you for the recommendations. On 9/13/06, James Westby <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: * Your debian/copyright needs more work, see http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2006/03/msg00023.html debian/copyright brought up to standard, more on that below... * debian/dirs is redundant here. Removed. * Consider using a python framework for managing the byte compilation, either python-support or python-central. pyisomd5sum is a .so extension, not a .py module, so byte compilation is not necessary/possible. -- As I was looking into correcting the debian/copyright file, I noticed that the Anaconda package's files had over 100 different Copyright claims by many dozens of different authors (mostly for the translations for the Installer portion of Anaconda itself. All were under GPL or LGPL, but it would have been quite a task to itemize them all, especially since 95% of the files would not be used in the final binary packages. That tipped the scales of convenience, and I decided to separate the isomd5sum directory of the Anaconda sources into its own tarball. As a result, there is now only one copyright holder (Red Hat, Inc), and one license (GPLv2). More on that is at http://www.finnie.org/software/isomd5sum/ (this also serves as a "home page" for the broken-out tarball). Because of this, the source package name has changed from anaconda to isomd5sum. Additionally, I have bumped the version from 11.1.0.50 to 11.1.0.95 (the latest Anaconda release; in reality, nothing in the isomd5sum directory changed between those versions). Oh, and an added benefit is the source tarball size dropped from 5.5MB to 19KB as a result. So... -- I am looking for a sponsor for my package "isomd5sum". * Package name: isomd5sum Version : 11.1.0.95-1 Upstream Author : Red Hat, Inc. * URL : http://www.finnie.org/software/isomd5sum/ * License : GPLv2 Section : misc It builds these binary packages: isomd5sum - ISO9660 checksum utilities python-pyisomd5sum - ISO9660 checksum Python module The package is lintian clean.
