Re: Kernel 2.4.20 + PCMCIA not working (testing)

2003-01-24 Thread Zak
I have compiled kernel 2.4.20 on Sid several times and never had pcmcia
work. I haven't made any serious attempt at diagnosing this, but it does
seem to be a problem with that versison of the kernel.

I'm the first to admit that I'm no expert on compiling kernels, but I
have compiled a number of 2.4 kernels and never had a problem with
pcmcia. I'm sure I have the right things enabled as I essentially reused
the config from 2.4.18, in which pcmcia worked perfectly.

I'm patiently waiting for 2.6.

[OT] Outlook/OE users: please remove me from your address book

2003-09-26 Thread Zak
I have been receiving 90-110 worm propagation emails every day. Based on
IP addresses, I have concluded that they can only be coming from members
of this list. I don't really care what email software complete strangers
use, but if you're going to use one that's full of holes allowing for
arbitrary execution of code you receive in your email, MAKE SURE I AM
NOT IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK! I am tired of having to download 16M of
malware every day. I do not have control over the mail server for this
account, or I would block this cruft and teergrube the senders.

I was more ranting than making a serious request. I think it is
exceedingly rude to connect an improperly secured computer to the
Internet. That includes anything running Windows that is not firewalled,
updated and checked for malware DAILY, improperly configured mail
servers that can act as open relays and a few other things. The Internet
cannot work if people refuse to be responsible citizens.
