Re: unresolved symbols in pcmcia modules v3.1.6
Hi Drew, I am struggling to keep my potato installation up and running on my Sony VAIO PCG-Z505F (japanese model). Works fine with a 2.3.24 kernel - except that in half a year I NEVER yet got PCMCIA to work. It is not vital for me, so I did not pour my best effort into it. I would like to use my old Adaptec APA-1460A SlimSCSI card to connect an external disk. While compilation of the modules proceeds without errors now, upon insmod /lib/modules/2.3.24/pcmcia/aha152x_cs.o I get an unresolved symbol aha152x_setup... Guess my problems are a little different and I will in the end not be able to simply sit it out since I am using development kernels. As far as I know PCMCIA is being moved into the kernel now, and I have no clear idea of what that implies. Please let me know if you learn something new. Install from USB floppy?
Hi there, Got an old but nice SONY VAIO PCG-Z505F (Japanese model). Thinking about just plugging a bigger hard drive in means reinstalling my debian system. First time around I happily partitioned the disk and erased the preinstalled windoze system only to find out that it cannot copy the kernel it is running from the rescue floppy to the hard drive... Had an old Toshiba laptop to get a system on that disk at the time, but not any more now. In the meantime the kernels have USB support and I can use the USB floppy as a SCSI device. If I put my hand-rolled kernel with the required USB support onto the rescue disk - will I be able to install a new system on the new harddrive? If not: Any other ideas? I have a PCMCIA SCSI card and SCSI disk that could be used, but no CD! Hi, Got a Dell Inspiron running fine with UXGA (1600x1200) and the NVIDIA card (and a little help from our friends on the list). With that card X can unfortunately not be stopped and restarted again though - after setting up I find that is no serious constraint. Re: Dell Inspiron 8000 and Geforce2go
It is quite true that you need NVIDIA's own drivers and GLX package (I had no success with the corresponding debian packages there). This driver (downloaded it from the NVIDIA web site is not in binary format though, but distributed as source code that I compiled against my own kernel code. The only remaining problem is something NVIDIA warns you about out front: You cannot exit X and restart it without rebooting your machine in between. If you try to restart X, the machine will hang... So if you leave X, you will have to shut down before you can use it again. One more thing: You need to append a line reading: options NVdriver NVreg_Mobile=1 to get this module inserted successfully! Two comments here: after you edited your /etc/modules.conf to append this line, you will need a reboot or some other means of making the module loader aware of the change you just made to this config file. Second I found that upgrades of my testing system routinely install (without asking or warning) new versions of this file (/etc/modules.conf) over the old file, loosing the line I appended. Luckily they move the old file to /etc/modules.conf~, but be advised to make a safety copy. graphics tablets and usb
Hi there, With Debian not distributing the experimental kernels I may be using the wrong address, but it should not hurt to try: I have a SONY VAIO PCG-Z505F running a 2.3.24 kernel (else mostly debian). My USB mouse works very nicely, and I got an appetite to try a graphics tablet, again connected via USB. Anybody successful with something like that (under linux of course)? If so: What tablet could be recommended?
