Re: more RAM, swap?

2002-09-20 Thread Daniel Lönn
Actually, take a look now before your memory upgrade, hos much of the
swap is actually being used. If it reaches the 50 Mb, and not more, I
would not recommend a such operation as resizing a swap. Other people
may do so, and please do whatever you feel, but have have in mind that
the swap is being used when there is no more memory left, and with 256
mb's of memory, you might not need more than 64, and that is just in
case, anyway. It is a de facto -standard to have the double swap as you
have ram. That might be very useful and highly recommended if you had a
16 mb ram -box. You should just stick to your current swap size..

USB2 PCMCIA Card

2002-09-20 Thread Daniel Lönn
Hi folks!

I just got my old stationary pc sold, for my new (brought second hand)
laptop. Now, this is the case, I need as much information regarding
this, from you people - as possible.

The computer is a Compaq Armada 110 laptop
( http://fake.by-infonet.de/laptop/ )

My problem is regarding USB...

The computer has two built in USB1 devices, in wich one the mouse is
conneted, and it works very well. Of course, the computer also has a
touchpad, as ps/2, and it works simultanously with the external mouse
whenever I want.

Now, in this computer, I have inserted a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card, to use
with a CD-WRITER. I keep this theoretical: I do not yet own a usb2
cd-writer, but I will, just in any day now. Now, I have heard of PCMCIA
support under Linux, and also about USB2, but has anyone any experience
of this?

The CD-writer I am going to get is of course usb1 compatible, so I can
stick with that in the meantime searching this information.

Any suggestions?
Hints, tips, whatever?

Ask for more info, if needed.

Regards!

Oh, the distribution is [EMAIL PROTECTED],196 Mb Ram and a Celeron 700 CPU

Mouse Configuration in X on Compaq Armada 110

2002-09-22 Thread Daniel Lönn
Hi folks

Now, this is the case

1) On my Compaq Armada 110, I use the internal touchpad, wich is ps/2, and a
external USB -mouse.

2) Sometimes, after awhile, the the focus weirds up totally. There is no
visible error at all, but the actual cursor seems to be 1 inch LEFT from the
cursor that I see. This is really frustrating, when you run apps that sinply
has to run a period of time, and when I therefore are being unbalbe to reboot
the machine - the only thing that actually solves the problem.

Example: If I in KDE right click for the root menu, I get the root menu, but
it slides down one inch left from the place I klicked.

Does anyone know how to solve this with a better method than restarting the
whole box? (No, restarting X does NOT fix it)

This comes after a period of time, no matter wich mouse I am using, nor does
it matter if the USB external is plugged in or not.
