Flashing screen in X with Chips 65540

2000-01-26 Thread Christian Rishøj

Hi,

When running X in 15 bpp or more using the xfree86 server and the
specific model "chips 65540" on my Acernote 350 a lot of "trash" occurs
on the screen when moving the mouse pointer or when there is any
acticity on the screen.

This can be fixed by entering the text-mode hardware APM configuration
menu accessible through a button on the laptop and then returning to X
shortly after.

This is a bit annoying! Did any of you ever encounter similar problems?

I grabbed this from the Xfree86 website:

"Textmode is not properly restored
This has been reported on some configurations. Many laptops use the
programmable clock of the 6554x chips at the console. It is not always
possible to find out the setting that is used for this clock if BIOS has
written the MClk after the VClk. Hence the server assumes a 25.175MHz clock
at the console. This is correct for most modes, but can cause some problems.
Usually this is fixed by switching between the LCD and CRT. Alternatively
the user can use the "TextClockFreq" option described above to select a
different clock for the text console. Another possible cause of this problem
is if the kernel is compiled with the "APM_DISPLAY_BLANK" option. As
mentioned before, this option should be disabled."

I think this applies to Daniel's problem with restoring the textmode.
Anyways, I will mail the Xfree86 project and ask if they know anything about
this problem.

apm error messages

2000-02-26 Thread Christian Rishøj

For some reason I get error messages while entering/leaving suspend/standby
mode on my Acernote 350 laptop running Debian potato with a 2.2.14 kernel.
This is what pops up on the screen:

apm: set display standby: Unrecognized device ID
apm: set display ready: Unrecognized device ID

Does any of you have clue what causes this?

Status of battery

2000-03-14 Thread Christian Rishøj

Hi,

Using apmd on my laptop (Acernote 350) I can see if I am on-line (AC) or
running batterypowered - but I am not able to get any info on the
current charge. I heard that apmd needed to "feel" the battery fully
charged and empty before being able to give info on the charge. I
believe I've been through these situations. Also, I did compile my
kernel (2.2.14) with APM-suppport.
Any clues of what I could try?
