Dell Laptop with Potato

2001-03-08 Thread Bill Shui
Hi there,
I am thinking of buying a laptop for work/uni, etc.
I came across the Dell Latitude C600 series.

With some modification such as 256MB RAM, PIII850, 20GB IDE HDD,
etc.

I was just wandering if anyone has bought a Dell laptop similar to the
spec above. If so, how smooth does debian potato run on these machines?

Your reply would be much appreciated.

cheers.
Bill

SDRAM for Dell Latitude c800

2001-03-15 Thread Bill Shui
Hi ya,
I have a Dell Latitude C800.

I currently have only 128mb of SDRAM.

I have been told by some mates of mine that I could just purchase

generic Laptop SDRAMS eg. 128mb approximately for $100AUD.

is that true, or do I have to buy DELL specific RAM?

if anyone has any experience with this, please let me know.

cheers. Thanks in advance.

Dell Latitude C800 and NIC card.

2001-03-28 Thread Bill Shui

Hi there,
I have a Dell Latitude C800. Has anyone manage to get the 3Com NIC
CARD, FAST ETHERNET, 10/100MBPS working for their

debian box? If so, how?

I have checked the site www.linux-laptop.net, and I was wondering
if kernel 2.4 handles the pcmcia stuff alright, without the need

to install the extra pcmcia package from http://pcmcia-cs.sourceforge.net?

cheers.

Integrated Mini-PCI ethnet/modem combo for Dell

2001-03-31 Thread Bill Shui
Hi,
has anyone got an integrated 10/100ETHNET/56modem combo installed for
their dell laptops?

If so, did you get it working with your linux? Which option should I
pick for kernel compilation in order to get it working?

The Mini pci card is:
- INTERNAL 3Com MINI-PCI COMBO ENET 10/100+MDM 56K,32 BIT

It's for a dell Latitude c800 or c600.

thanks in advance.
