If you give the halt or shutdown command from X, the messages are sent
to tty7 or whichever virtual terminal was active at the time of the
command. To see these messages, you can switch to a text console
(ctrl-alt-(F1-F6)) before shutting down, or press alt-F7 after the
graphic display stops.

With 4 MB ram, you probably can't install a current version of Debian,
but RAM and hard disk upgrades are still available. To get to the
BIOS, hold the ESC key down while turning the power on, then press F1
(if I remember correctly).

As most members of this mailing list should know, an email virus is
harmless unless it gets executed, therefore it needs the cooperation of
a mail client that automatically executes attachments. The mystery is
why so many people continue to use such BAD (Broken As Designed) software.

unrtf can convert an rtf file to plain text, html, ps or other
formats. The man page for the version in testing warns that all output
formats except html are alpha. On the file that was attached, unrtf
to text stopped at section 3.2.5.

If the lights flash you've found the power button. (The Power/Speed
light and the DC In light should stay on). Try adjusting the brightness
knob on the right side of the screen, and try the reset button (use a
pencil or paper clip in the little hole by the power button). If you
can't see anything on the built in screen, you might try a monitor.
You might also try charging the battery: leave the AC adapter plugged in
with the power off for an hour or so until the battery light turns
green.

There's been a change in the default settings in the new version of
aptitude. It was mentioned on the debian-user list.
If you prefer the old behavior, you can add this line to
/etc/apt/apt.conf:
Aptitude::Auto-Upgrade "true";

Write a separate XF86Config file for the beamer, and start the X server with
startx -- -xf86config

unrtf can convert an rtf file to plain text, html, ps or other
formats. The man page for the version in testing warns that all output
formats except html are alpha. On the file that was attached, unrtf
to text stopped at section 3.2.5.

You need to remove the default gateway 10.0.0.1 on eth0. The ppp
defaultroute option won't replace an existing default route.

You might also try charging the battery: leave the AC adapter plugged in
with the power off for an hour or so until the battery light turns
green.

"apt-cdrom add" each of the 7 CD's, and when you run dselect, use "apt",
not "cd" as the access method. Using dselect or aptitude, you won't
need to go to the website to search for packages.

You can also press "U" (capital U) to upgrade all upgradeable packages.
There's been a change in the default settings in the new version of
aptitude. It was mentioned on the debian-user list.
If you prefer the old behavior, you can add this line to
/etc/apt/apt.conf:
Aptitude::Auto-Upgrade "true";

Do you have any other network device with a default route? What is the

Edit the file /var/lib/dpkg/info/nvidia-kernel-2.4.24-1-686.postrm
and insert "exit 0" as the second line.

Have you done apt-get update?
If you are using a 2.2 kernel, you are probably using Woody. Do the
entries in your sources.list file point to "woody" or "oldstable", not
"stable"?

Perhaps "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86" would work. (maybe you have
tried that; I only keep debian-user posts for two days)
