I thought the friend who gave me 9.10 said Ubuntu was a version of Debian. I'm still so new to using Linux that I didn't pay enough attention, and never looked into what iterations of Linux are out there. Any ideas on this though, if you know something about Ubuntu? Or, should I find an Ubuntu list? Is there a setting I need to make to bring that back into view? I think your Gnome theme is a problem. Maybe your selected theme is not compatible with new Gnome. Try to set another theme(s). > My wifi connection is fine, but it takes forever to move from page to page in > Firefox since the upgrade. "Move from page to page" means following the links, or are you talking about switching between tabs? (Just want little more information for those who may know about solution, I don't know any for first nor second one). And yes, I think you should look for Ubuntu list. I believe ubuntu-users[1] is a way to go. 1. https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-users -- Regards, Alexander Batischev -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-laptop-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". I installed it on my shiny new EeePC 900HA last winter and it works just (well, almost) fine. It recognised all the hardware right and I'm happy how it works. The only problem remains is: if you disable WiFi, you also disable LAN port. That means, to use wired network you should have wireless module enabled as well. And there's also another little trouble - if you disable WiFi at runtime, or if it was disabled on system boot, to enable it's not enough to just press Fn+F2, you should also run the following command: # modprobe pciehp pciehp_force=1 But if you don't constantly disable and enable your networking module, your 900HA would work just great under Squeeze. And last but not least: Squeeze would became stable soon, so there's probably no reason to install Lenny. -- Regards, Alexander Batischev 1024D/69093C81 F870 A381 B5F5 D2A1 1B35 4D63 A1A7 1C77 6909 3C81 signature.asc Description: Digital signature

There's no such feature in bash (and any other shell) as far as I know. I'm using standard colorscheme with one exception - I redefined directories to be "black on white", because default dark blue color is almost invisible on a black background. You can get my ~/.dir_colors here[1], and it can be applied as follows: eval `dircolors ~/.dir_colors` Put this line somewhere in ~/.bashrc and enjoy! 1. http://dumpz.org/14522/text/ -- Regards, Alexander Batischev 1024D/69093C81 F870 A381 B5F5 D2A1 1B35 4D63 A1A7 1C77 6909 3C81 signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Re: Problemas con los puertos usb en HP
Hi! We're talking in English here, but as far as there's no debian-user-spanish@, I think that's not a big deal. I don't know Spanish, but Google Translate helped me so as far as I can tell, you're experiencing very low speed when copying your data to your external HDD via USB. Here's what I can suggest you to do: - try to use that USB drive with another machine. That would help us figure out if it's problem with your laptop or your HDD. - Try to copy some large file (maybe ISO or something like that) and look at the speed rate. Large files usually hits the limitation of hardware (like HDD read speed, USB transfer speed, external HDD write speed). Maybe low speed you're experiencing is a consequence of copying a lot of small files? - look at the CPU load while you're copying files. If I recall correctly, earlier versions of ntfs-3g gave pretty big load on processor. By the way, which release of Debian you're using? Hope it would help to specify problem. -- Regards, Alexander Batischev 1024D/69093C81 F870 A381 B5F5 D2A1 1B35 4D63 A1A7 1C77 6909 3C81 signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Re: Debug hibernate/resume failure?
I have similar trouble with my Asus EeePC 900HA. Sometimes after hibernate it loads image (HDD led lit), then just show me black screen (tty, I suppose, but there's nothing in there). I use REISUB to reboot - which means I also lose my hibernation image and have to start all the applications up again. Probability to get in trouble raising each time I hibernate and resume. I didn't investigate any time in debugging that because I have no idea from where to start. And as far as I always had Squeeze on that machine I have no idea did it work in Lenny or so. As for suspend, I use it pretty rarely and I don't remember any troubles with it. -- Regards, Alexander Batischev 1024D/69093C81 F870 A381 B5F5 D2A1 1B35 4D63 A1A7 1C77 6909 3C81 signature.asc Description: Digital signature
