Odds are, they'd even be legal (at least you'd get > a disk complete with license key, and the computer it was originally sold > with is now scrap). Careful. Many OEM Windows licenses "live and die" with the hardware. They're non-transferrable, and are thus invalid if used on a machine other than the one it was originally supplied on. As an aside, the old OEM license used to allow for refunds, but they've taken that out now too. If you buy a PC now with Windows (XP) pre-installed, you cannot get a refund for Windows only, you have to return the OS and the hardware together. Not sure what the license is for shop-bought (non-OEM) Windows licenses as I've never bought one and thus haven't read it. Cheers, Al.

So you currently use static IP addresses? Have you got the card working on your laptop? If so, you can just type "dhclient eth0" where eth0 is your network inteface. You can run ifconfig to find out what the network interface is.. Cheers, Al. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This means that on windows you will get access to the desktop as it is seen at the local machine, but on linux you get to see a different desktop. e.g. on a linux box you locally connect to desktop :0, but when you start vnc server you will start it on desktop :1, which you connect to remotely, a different desktop. I just did a search for "uptime" and found (amongst others).. http://freshmeat.net/projects/uptime_applet/ "uptime_applet is a Gnome applet which will display your system uptime." http://freshmeat.net/projects/uptimepeak/ "UptimePeak is a program that captures and records uptime peaks between sessions. The 'uptime' command is used to retrieve uptime data allowing any user to use this program. Designed to be executed manually or from crontab, uptime snapshots are taken as often as the command is executed. The uptime value from each snapshot is stored until the machine is rebooted, at which point the uptime peak is archived. Various output formats are implemented for on-demand reports and HTML pages." There's a lot more to choose from though. Cheers, Al.
