compaq nx6120
Hi there My compaq nx6120 runs a Debian 4.0r2 and a kernel 2.6.18-6-686. Most features work nicely, but there are a couple of quite annoying problems I couldn't find a clear answer: 1) My mouse very often dies and dmesg gives the following message: uhci_hcd :00:1d.0: host controller process error, something bad happened! uhci_hcd :00:1d.0: host controller halted, very bad! uhci_hcd :00:1d.0: HC died; cleaning up usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 3 It is interesting that this usually happens when i slightly move the laptop on the table. Moving the mouse or its cable does not cause it to hang. I've seen several posts with similar problems, but not a good solution to it. 2) ACPI isn't working. I can't see the battery details and the computer does not completely shutdown. It stops at "System is halted" and hangs. I would appreciate any help on these matters. Moving the mouse or its cable does not cause it hw failure - likely a defective soldering on the motherboard. Re: compaq nx6120
Sorry i've forgot to reply for the second part :). So about the moving and not working effect it's seems to be hardware failure maybe dropped down somewhere or something. But about battery status i had that problem and kernel upgrade fixed. 2008/2/15, Paolo <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > > On Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 08:04:13PM +, Beny Spira wrote: > > 1) My mouse very often dies and dmesg gives the following message: > > > > uhci_hcd :00:1d.0: host controller process error, something bad > happened! > > uhci_hcd :00:1d.0: host controller halted, very bad! > > ... > > > It is interesting that this usually happens when i slightly move the > > laptop on the table. Re: sound with Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW
Hi Richard, I think the correct module is snd_hda_intel, could you try load it? And could you sent the output of `cat /dev/sndstat´ ? ./nelson -murilo On Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 11:42:20PM +0100, Richard Lyons wrote: > I know this has been covered before, but I am just doing a periodical > check to see if anyone has solved it in the meantime. sound with Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW
I know this has been covered before, but I am just doing a periodical check to see if anyone has solved it in the meantime. Many do seem to get sound on laptops now, so there is hope... I have an Acer Aspire 1604Z. lspci shows the onboard sound to be Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04) I have etch and have now upgraded the kernel to 2.6.18-5-686 as someone suggested the newer kernel might help. It didn't (in fact, the install quietly uninstalled grub and deleted /boot/grub/, which made me regret trying this...) Obviously I have run alsaconf, checked with alsamixer that nothing seems to be muted, tried 'modprobe snd-intel8x0' and so on. So far, this laptop is as silent under linux as every other laptop I ever had. It would be really nice if someone knows how to make it sing, as I am getting tired of telling Doze users that the only reason my computer cannot play cds is that I haven't any need to and haven't had time to configure it. Actually both statements are untrue :-( TIA, -- richard -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Actually both statements are untrue :-( I have several old Thinkpads of Pentium II & III vintage, and have found with recent kernels that sound (and other things too!!) support kind of comes and goes. It would seem that kernel developers all have nice shiny new machines. To solve most of my sound card headaches I bought a pair of USB headphones, and a pair of high-quality USB speakers. I have also found that if I blacklist the module for the internal sound card, when I plug in a USB sound device it becomes the one and only default sound device, and almost all software talks to it just fine. (Getting some software to talk to a USB sound card in the second position is non-trivial) Just a thought. Clayton -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
