Hi, after I installed the new kernel 2.6.19-2, there is problem with the USB port. Now for every device I connect to the USB port is not "plugged and played". What is the usual cause of it? Heru - Yahoo! Messenger - kostenlos* mit Familie und Freunden von PC zu PC telefonieren.

Ethernet Network card RTL8101E does not work
Hi *, I have bought a Toshiba Satellite M115 Laptop, and I'm getting lots of problems with the Ethernet Network card [ RTL8101E (Fast Ethernet with PCI-Express interface)]. I have downloaded the driver from realtek.com.tw and I have followed the steps which appear in README file: This is the Linux device driver released for RealTek Ethernet controllers, which are listed as following. 1. RTL8169S/SB/SC (Gigabit Ethernet with PCI interface) 2. RTL8168B (Gigabit Ethernet with PCI-Express interface) 3. RTL8101E (Fast Ethernet with PCI-Express interface) - kernel source tree (supported versions 2.4.x or 2.6.x) - compiler/binutils for kernel compilation Unpack the tarball : tar vzxf r1000_vX.YZ.tgz Change to the directory: cd r1000_vX.YZ If you are running the target kernel, then you should be able to do : make clean modules (as root or with sudo) make install depmod -a 1. Force the link status when insert the driver. If the user is in the path ~/r1000, the link status can be forced to one of the 5 modes as following command. #insmod ./src/r1000.ko speed=SPEED_MODE duplex=DUPLEX_MODE autoneg=NWAY_OPTION ,where SPEED_MODE = 1000 for 1000Mbps = 100 for 100Mbps = 10 for 10Mbps DUPLEX_MODE = 0 for half-duplex = 1 for full-duplex NWAY_OPTION = 0 for auto-negotiation off = 1 for auto-negotiation on For example: #insmod ./src/r1000.ko speed=100 duplex=0 autoneg=0 will force PHY to operate in 100Mpbs Half-duplex. 2. Force the link status by using ethtool. a. Insert the driver first. b. Make sure that ethtool exists in /sbin. c. Force the link status as the following command. #ethtool -s eth? speed SPEED_MODE duplex DUPLEX_MODE autoneg NWAY_OPTION ,where SPEED_MODE = 1000 for 1000Mbps = 100 for 100Mbps = 10 for 10Mbps DUPLEX_MODE = half for half-duplex = full for full-duplex NWAY_OPTION = off for auto-negotiation off = on for auto-negotiation on - Supports Jumbo Frame - Hardware Tx/Rx flow control The procedure that I show above was not successful. Then I tried with the steps from [1] which is almost the same, the only difference between both is that in this case I had to change some lines into src/r1000_n.c, then I compiled and it didn't work again :S Now, I'm compiling a new kernel version (2.6.19.1) because i read maybe the problem would be solved using this kernel. Have you had that problem? Can someone help me? slow mouse cursor
I just did a fresh etch install on a sony vaio pcg-r505 laptop. I have had debian installed on this before, but it has been a while. I am having a bit of a problem with the mouse cursor being really slow. I have changed the acceleration in gnome, but with no effect. I have also tried logging into twm, but the problem persists. This would lead me to believe that the problem is in x and not wm dependent. It also occurs to me that this might be a hardware problem. I don't think so, as this is the only problem it is showing, but I guess it is possible. Is there a setting in the mouse configuration in xorg.conf that I am missing? SOLVED: Battery drain during suspend to ram on Thinkpad
Hi list, This is documented on Thinkwiki already, but it's a bit buried so I thought I'd bring it to the list's attention: Many Thinkpad models appear to suspend to ram but actually use as much power as they do when switched on! But as of kernel 2.6.18 (e.g. current etch), all you have to do to work around this is have the radeonfb module loaded. This works on my T40; for the first time I can suspend a laptop running Debian so I'm pretty happy. For more info on this and other ways to reduce power use during S3 suspend, here's the link to Thinkwiki: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_high_power_drain_in_ACPI_sleep Regards, John -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Video issues with T42 running Etch and more
Hi, It was an interesting week of installing Debian Etch on my laptop(T42 Type 2379). Have managed to come so far... Starting installation from a single CD.. getting the rest from the Debian mirror here (http://ftp.iitm.ac.in/debian/), resizing and repartitioning(NTFS). brining up eth1(Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG), and resolving certain other issues. Have now come up against a stone wall and need help. The video card on this machine is a ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500]. X is working but I don't think its working the way it should. I am unable to find from google, why lspci says that this card is 128MB whereas it is 32MB. The relevant lspci -vvv output is 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] (prog-if 00 [VGA]) Subsystem: IBM Unknown device 0530 Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping+ SERR+ FastB2B+ Status: Cap+ 66MHz+ UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium TAbort- SERR- Latency: 66 (2000ns min), Cache Line Size: 32 bytes Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 11 Region 0: Memory at e000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] Region 1: I/O ports at 3000 [size=256] Region 2: Memory at c010 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] [virtual] Expansion ROM at c012 [disabled] [size=128K] Capabilities: my free -m output is [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ free -m total used free sharedbuffers cached Mem: 504230273 0 8 96 -/+ buffers/cache:125379 Swap: 1011 0 1011 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ I see that there is only 504MB of ram where as it must have been 512. where has the rest 8mb gone? I understand that this happens only when its shared by the VGA controller and in this case why would the VGA controller share it because its got 32 MB of vram. how can I know how much ram is being used by xorg. I looked at the log file for xorg but could not see definitive answers. I can provide the full lspci output if required and would be nice if someone could send me an xorg.conf which fully utilizes this system. on the sidelines, I were wondering why *most* of the subsystems on this T42 shows up as R50e on the lspci output. It that usual or has Lenovo conned me into purchasing R50e machine with just T42 name with better lid material.
