System Freeze w/audio CDs

2006-12-04 Thread Baz

Hello.

I installed "etch" on a Z60t Thinkpad a few days ago. Now, the entire
system freezes when I attempt to play an audio CD. Although I'm new to
Linux, this sounds major; as in, I'll likely need to reinstall it. Of
course, the experience, which leads me to this assessment comes from working
with Apple OS/X and Windows. Is this assessment correct? If not, where
should I begin looking to ID and correct the problem?

Deleting Debian - Enough's enough

2006-12-04 Thread Baz

What happens to GRUB if I simply delete the Debian partition? And, if I'm
looking to install Ubuntu, will it simply overwrite Debian?

Debian 2.6.17-9 Cisco Aironet 350 can't get a compiled module to run

2006-12-04 Thread Jean-Louis Crouzet

Hi all,

not sure using the proper NG, but let's have try I having an old HP
Omnibook900 and I'm compiling an optimized Linux image for it under
Debian distro.
When using the defacto package from Debian the pcmcia card is configured
an work like a charm. When I do use my compiled kernel I have always the
same problem (I have tried many .config w/o any success).
The card is recognized in both cases (Yenta CardBus Bridge) and I do
have equivalent dmesg, but with my compiled module I always have the

airo(eth0): BAP error 4000 0
airo(eth0): Bad size 2630
airo(eth0): BAP error 4000 0
airo(eth0): Bad size 2636
airo(eth0): airo: BAP setup error too many retries
...

I look at any possible google tips prior getting here asking stupid
questions. At cisco web side it's all now protected and inaccessible the
other available driver on sourceforge project page seems to have been
abandoned.

I'am alone in that case? Anyone with a working suggestion?

Thanks in anticipation,
JL

If you grub.conf is located there, you will not be able to use your
grub anymore.

I think that if you install Ubuntu and install GRUB in the same place,
it will simply overwrite the old GRUB.

Cheers,

You'll lose your menu at least. Also, you will lose the ability
for it to read your file system(s). I think it would be best
to re-install GRUB after putting Ubuntu in.

Re: [Thinkpad] System Freeze w/audio CDs

2006-12-04 Thread Alex Austin

What CD player program are you using? Does it freeze as soon as you stick
the disk in? If so, what desktop are you using? KDE? Gnome? XFCE? Can you
play other sounds/music files? Can you rip audio with CDParanoia? Which
optical drive do you have?

2006-12-04 Thread Daniel J. Axtens

(I have tried many .config w/o any success).

Have you tried extracting the config from the running kernel?

I'm not sure if the default kernel includes it at '/proc/config.gz',
and I'm at school I'm not in a position to check - can someone confirm
this? If it does, you can do something like 'zcat /proc/config.gz >
.config; make menuconfig' and start from there. You might also find a
config file in /boot/, but again, I can't check that.

Daniel
