ipw2100 problem
I have a Dell Latitude D800, and I am not able to get my wireless card running. I have (lspci): :02:03.0 Network controller: Intel CorporationPRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter (rev 04) I am runing a testing/unstable debian with debian's 2.6.12-1-686 kernel (uname -a): Linux dhpc-5-42 2.6.12-1-686 #1 Tue Sep 27 12:52:50 JST 2005 i686 GNU/Linux I have build ieee80211 and ipw2100 modules from ieee80211-source and ipw2100-source debian packages using modules-assistant.The installation of these modules was very smooth. However when I try to load the ipw2100 module, I get the following (dmesg): ieee80211_crypt: unregistered algorithm 'NULL' (deinit) ieee80211_crypt: registered algorithm 'NULL' ieee80211: 802.11 data/management/control stack, 1.1.6 ieee80211: Copyright (C) 2004-2005 Intel Corporation <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ipw2100: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Driver, 1.1.3 ipw2100: Copyright(c) 2003-2005 Intel Corporation ACPI: PCI Interrupt :02:03.0[A] -> Link [LNKB] -> GSI 5 (level, low) -> IRQ 5 ipw2100Device not found via register read. I would much appreciate any help on this topic. Best regards, Tone -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Debian Sarge boot problem on Acer 1694
Hi. :) I have Sarge, DVD dist that I've installed (Kerner 2.4) on my Acer 1694 without problem. The problems started when I booted for the first time (it has never booted). The startup procedure hangs when it comes to the USB. Even worst, if I disconnect the bluetooth or the mice (witch is an USB device), I get a notification about the USB device disconnection. Let me explain with more detail. During startup, and if I have my USB mice disconnected, I got: - usb.c: registered new driver hci_usb insmod: insmod: a module named bluez already exists insmod: insmod: hci_usb failed insmod: insmod: a module named hci_usb already exists - but if I have my USB mice connected, it stops a bit further ahead - usb.c: registered new driver hiddev usb.c: registered new driver hid usb-uhci.c: interrupt, status 3, frame# 2021 input: USB HID v1.10 Mouse [Microsoft ...] on usb4:v2.0 hid-core.c: v1.8.1 ... hid-core.c: USB HID support drivers mice: PS/2 mose device common for all mice - when I disconnect the bluetooth or the mice, I got the message: usb.c: USB disconnect on device 00:1d.0-1 address 2 but nothing else happens. When trying to connect the mice, the USB device is no longer mounted, since I get no notification about it. I searched for similar problems and come up with trying to disconnect USB and PCMCIA support loading with: debian-installer/probe/usb=false e hw-detect/start-pcmcia=false But the result was the same. Installing kernel 2.6 it's totally out of the question. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Re: Freezing, SMP Kernel and P4
On 06/11/05, David R. Litwin <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: I have a Pentium Four processor with 3.06GHz speed. As far as I can tell, this means that I am eligible to use a 686-smp kernel. Though in comparison to the non smp kernel it seems to be much faster, an odd thing is also happening which I can only attribute to the smp (since I have not really seen it on the non smp kernel). My computer is doing some big-time freezing. It seems to be random, happening a few hours after I turn on my laptop; or only a few minutes. I have to manually do a hard reboot, which means it needs to run fsck which means data can be lost or corrupted (aside from it possibly damaging the whole computer and generally being a very big pain in the arse). I'd like to know your opinions. Is this freezing due to the smp? If so, why? How can I fix it?I thank you kindly in advance. To add a bit to the fun, I can no longer log in under my user name from KDM (I've not tried GDM). I can, however, from a console. But, I do not know how to start KDE from a console: Doing startx gives Gnome, which is not what I use. I believe that the problem is with X. I could be completely mistaken. I'm thinking of purging all of it (apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg xserver-xorg-dbg and maybe xserver-xfree86). Is this a good idea? I would be very grateful for any help whatsoever as my system is really becoming unusable. Not to mention data is being corrupted every time I must do a hard re-boot. And it hampers me from doing my work.I thank you most kindly in advance. -- —A watched bread-crumb never boils.—My hover-craft is full of eels. —[...]and that's the he and the she of it. -- —A watched bread-crumb never boils.—My hover-craft is full of eels.—[...]and that's the he and the she of it.
Re: Freezing, SMP Kernel and P4
But, I do not know how> to start KDE from a console: Doing startx gives Gnome, which is not what I > use.IIRC it's startkde (or possibly start-kde, it's been a while). This may be totally off the wall but I was recently unable to log onvia kdm after an upgrade and, to cut a long story short, it eventually turned out to be a full root partition. (I imagine it would bewhichever partition /tmp lives in).I'm not too sure what you mean. Are you saying that the root partition ( / ) was not properly formated when you upgraded? I'm not 100% sure what the support position the the more exoticfacitilies of the recent chips is. Is this a hyperthreading chip or multicore?Hyperthreading. It's a Pentium four. I did much research and it seems that the P4 is quite capable of running an smp. In fact, I recently tried to use the non smp kernel I still have. It did freeze (but, in an odder fashion; it was thinking so much that I could only move the mouse sporadically. It was useless.) but it was far slower. So, the smp is deffinetly the kernel for me. Hope this is of some helpPerhaps it has been. I shall try out the startkde or start-kde soon and tell you the results. Thank you kindly. -- —A watched bread-crumb never boils.—My hover-craft is full of eels.—[...]and that's the he and the she of it.
Re: Freezing, SMP Kernel and P4
I haven't had the pleasure of running an smp kernel. Those are for Symmetricmulti processing if I'm not mistaken, and you need two processors or maybe a dual core cpu.I have a multithreading processor. After doing more research, I finaly figured out that the smp is the kernel for me.So, I highly doubt that it is this which is causing the freezing. This freezing is sporadic: Some times it comes six minutes after boot-up; other times, hours. I wish I could give more information. Is there some log or script which wold record what was happening when the freeze occured? Thank you kindly.-- —A watched bread-crumb never boils.—My hover-craft is full of eels.—[...]and that's the he and the she of it.
