Try using google and search for 'laptop manual'. I found 3.530.000 hits. It is a bit confusing though, since it seems there are actually different laptop manuals floating around the net. Maybe they are just different versions, and you can do a BIOS upgrade. It is also off topic, since this is not really related to Debian. [OT] USB device allocation
I know it's off topic, but this is one of the few mailing lists I am subscribed to that has useful information and intelligent respondents (most of the time) :) Is there a way of forcing a usb device (in this case a usb flash drive) to always connect as /dev/sdb? I have a camera that I also connect to my laptop, which I would prefer to always be connected as dev/sda mainly for ease of use by family members. i.e. if I have my usb drive connected first, and then my partner wishes to connect the camera she will get very confused by the fact that when she clicks on the camera icon on the desktop, it will open the USB drive, unless I have removed the drive, in which case error messages will pop up and she'll have kittens (a bit computer-phobic my partner). any pointers/links to useful information would be greatly appreciated. cheers, Ben -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Some searching gave me http://www.reactivated.net/udevrules.php, which seems to be pretty neat. Note that I haven't tried it myself, though. Setting up alias for orinoco_cs
Hey all, I've got a Dell C640 with the builtin 802.11b wireless. It is working with the orinoco_cs driver. However, when I dock and undock my laptop, the eth0-2 numbers change, so when I am undocked the wireless is eth1, but when I am docked, the wireless is eth2. Is there a way I can set up an alias so the wireless is always eth2 (or wlan0 or something like that)? This would ease the configuration in /etc/network/interfaces. Also, if anyone has any tips using xsupplicant for 802.1x authentication, any pointers would be greatly appreciated. I have the same problem with a desktop PC. but i have the both working well. When i do a apt-get upgrade, the ethernet comes crazy, and not work... it's really bad. Anyone who can help me ?? Please, tks How can i put acpi working? I think your only option may be to add a separate network card, either a PCMCIA one or a USB one. Good lord, does it need to be this complicated? Just set both of your mail apps to leave messages on the server for 15 days or something. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Udev requires 2.6. Alternatively, has anybody managed to get 3d acceleration on a radeon 7500 working under 2.6.x? If I could get that going I would run a 2.6.x kernel! It will automatically create a mountpoint under /media (if you dare touch the script, you can change it it's not too hard) and add the appropriate entry to /etc/fstab. You can point your icons, automounters or whatnot to the stable mountpoint under /media. The same author has another script, this one for devfs and 2.4, available at http://ccomb.free.fr/usbstorage/updfstab-2.4. Obviously, not maintained anymore, but hey, 2.6 has been here for a while, it's nice and stable. Time to take the leap!
