I use CUPS with the following options:

Set the 'Model/Driver' option to one working with the printer you
are using. 192.168.0.1 is the default IP address for the DI-713P on
the LAN side.

Where are the docs for configuring this?
I checked /usr/doc/... and all there is there are the changelogs.
I pulled in the files for the cups client and not the server. The
server shouldn't be required.

That's not completely true. I have a Compaq Presario 1700, ACPI only.
I dual-boot between Win 98 and Debian potato. I'm still running a
2.2.* kernel so I don't have ACPI support in Linux, although I of
course do in Windows.

OK, I stood prepared to be corrected there. My Dell Inspiron 2500
certainly doesn't do it in the BIOS - though I haven't figured out _how_
it does it in Windows (not the same way as others have reported...)

Surprisingly, suspend-to-disk mostly works for me under Linux, with
two minor exceptions:

1. I have to be out at the console when I hit the key. If I'm in X,
the box hangs. I can be running X, just need to Ctrl-Alt-F* to a
console window first.

2. It doesn't reset the time when it starts back up. I've gotten
into the habit of running "hwclock --hctosys" as soon as I
restart.

I have that same problem with S1 state. I really need to put the
hwclock invocation into acpid

Other than that, suspend-to-disk works great. Now if I could only
tell how much battery life I have left... :-)

I haven't tried the ACPI 0329 patch yet, but the previous one can't even
insmod acpi_battery, so I have the same problem.

External Monitor on IBM Thinkpad T23

2002-04-01 Thread Andreas Locatelli

Hi all!

I've got Woody installed on a T23 Thinkpad.

My problem is that I don't seem to be able to drive the external monitor
with an adequate refresh rate.

Even if I specify a modeline, or tune with Xvidtune, I always have
1280x1024/60Hz and I'd like at least 1280x1024/75Hz (85 would also be
cool)

It is also not quite clear how to confirgure XF86Config-4 to have
different settings for the external and internal monitor...

Using two "Screen" in ServerLayout crashes the server...

Server: Xfree 4.1.0.1
Card: S3 SuperSavage.

I am using the latest savage driver from www.probo.com/timr/savage40.html
(The ones from S3 crash the server)

 thanks

Andreas

This might not be relevant, but here goes

I have a Compaq Armada M300. I had the same problem. I found that with
XFree86 4.x and Windows 98 I can never get the external display to use
a high refresh rate (85Hz) until I shut off the LCD. If the LCD is
running, I get 60Hz come what may.

Maybe there's a solution, and in that case I'd love to know it. On the
other hand.. ;-)

Cheers!

This seems a bit off-topic, and you actually don't ask a single question
;-). But, I guess you want to know how to get printing working with that
device uder Linux. I have the device working. Portscanning revealed
it listens to 515/tcp (LPD). The tricky part was figuring out the LPD
queue name the thing uses. It is not documented anywhere but it is 'lp'.
I use CUPS with the following options:

Device: LPD/LPR Host or Printer
Device URI: lpd://192.168.0.1/lp

Set the 'Model/Driver' option to one working with the printer you
are using. 192.168.0.1 is the default IP address for the DI-713P on
the LAN side.

External Monitor on IBM Thinkpad T23

Hi all!

I've got Woody installed on a T23 Thinkpad.

with an adequate refresh rate.

Even if I specify a modeline, or tune with Xvidtune, I always have
1280x1024/60Hz and I'd like at least 1280x1024/75Hz (85 would also be

It is also not quite clear how to confirgure XF86Config-4 to have
different settings for the external and internal monitor...

Using two "Screen" in ServerLayout crashes the server...

Server: Xfree 4.1.0.1
Card: S3 SuperSavage.

I am using the latest savage driver from www.probo.com/timr/savage40.html
(The ones from S3 crash the server)

 thanks

This might not be relevant, but here goes

I have a Compaq Armada M300. I had the same problem. I found that with
XFree86 4.x and Windows 98 I can never get the external display to use
a high refresh rate (85Hz) until I shut off the LCD. If the LCD is
running, I get 60Hz come what may.

Maybe there's a solution, and in that case I'd love to know it. On the
other hand.. ;-)

Cheers!
Shyamal
