You may need to enable various plug-and-play options in the kernel too. What's in your /etc/alsa/modutils/0.9? Did you run update-modules after you made the symlink? update-modules updates the /etc/modules.conf file. Try modprobe snd-card-trident. Also, try running dmesg, and see if it says anything enlightening. Well, I've solved the problem, at least to some extent.Alsa now loads at bootup and even unloads at suspend, but neither esd-alsa0 or alsaplayer-alsa seem to see any acceptable sound devices on start. The OSS-compatability layer works very nicely however, but wonder what's wrong with my /etc/alsa/modutils/0.9 ? Sorry for the badky written post. I should make myself a little more clear. What I wanted to say was that libesd0 works and libesd-alsa0 doesn't. The ALSA API changed between ALSA 0.5 and 0.9. esd-alsa uses the 0.5 API, so you won't be able to use esd-alsa. alsaplayer should work though. You probably have an older version. I think the 0.9 API support was added in 0.99.36 or thereabouts. Just make sure your kernels are always visible on the FAT filesystem and you'll be fine; given the description I assume you're saving the windows parts, so just create a /linux directory to keep loadlin's stuff in. * Heather Stern * star@ many places...
