Inspiron 8100 and APR problems

2002-01-21 Thread Jonas Juselius

Hello,

I recently got a Dell Inspiron 8100 together with an APR (Advanced Port
Replicator) or a docking station. The laptop runs smooth as vodka
with both 2.4.17 and 2.4.18-pre3-ac2 :-) That is, as long as it is not
plugged into the dock ;-( When I connect the laptop to the APR
everything seems to work fine for a while (10-60 minutes), but then
suddenly it just reboots, without leaving a single hint in any
logfile... sucks. Any clues?

cheers, .jonas.

P.S. I'm using the A08 BIOS D.S.

Maybe it sounds stupid, but how about trying to insert it into /etc/modules?
This is a comment from mine:

# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.
#
# This file should contain the names of kernel modules that are
# to be loaded at boot time, one per line.

Well, as far as I know one should use modconf for things like this on a
debian system. Besides, there is no point loading drivers at boot time, for
they will be loaded 'on demand' by the kernel if your /etc/modules.conf is up
to date. modconf will take care of this.
