Sound on Thinkpad 390X

I have had similar problems. Sound works fine on audio CDs. However, real audio and mp3s come out garbled. In my past experience with the 390E, I figured out that the 390E requires a 2.2.15 kernel to have real audio working correctly. I am running 2.2.15 on the 390X and sound is garbled. I imagine that a newer kernel will eventually fix this -- haven't tried 2.2.16. Hopefully a fix isn't far away though. Soundproblems with Dell Inspiron 7000
My sound works nice, the soundcard thats in the box is an Maestro card. When I listen to music it works fine, but when I try to change the volume WHILE playing music, the hole computer just crashes. I can change volume before I play a song, or after, that works fine. But aslong as I am playing a tune and try to play with the volume at the same time, the system just hangs. :( Anyone have an idea what I can do? //david -- David Röhr UNIX Systems Administrator <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Flow Interactive Sweden AB Why use Windows, since there is a door? -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". suspend on nec versa v
Hello, I'm running potato on a NEC Versa V/75 (486-75mhz w/36MB ram) with great success. I recently upgraded from slink to potato (fresh install--ram upgrade), and suspend, which had been working perfectly under slink, is no longer functioning. The suspend button has absolutely no effect on the computer. Is anyone out there running potato on a Versa V with functioning suspend, or have an idea how to fix this? thinkpad 340 modem
hi, i digged up an old ibm thinkpad 340 which runs quite nicely on potato (8/120mb ;-) ). i have only one problem - the internal modem. i read that it's hayes compatible so it should not be a winmodem (the computer seems a little old for one anyway). but for some reason i don't seem to see it - i tried many different setserial settings and never got anything. does anyone have a clue what the settings are and which ttyS?? to use? thanks christoph -- Christoph HebeisenGraduate Student Department of Physics [EMAIL PROTECTED] Simon Fraser University Burnaby, BC V5A 1S6 Phone +1 604 291-5924 Canada Fax +1 604 291-3592 -- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". potato/kernel 2.2.17 upgrade problems
I upgraded my Sony Vaio 505VE from slink to potato, and then upgraded the kernel from 2.0.38 to 2.2.17. Using potato with 2.0.38 is no problem, but with 2.2.17 there are a couple of problems, perhaps related. syslog gives me an error at bootup. I can reproduce the error by executing /etc/init.d/sysklogd restart later. The error is: syslogd: cannot create /dev/log: Invalid argument X problem - the server does not start - I eventually kill it with Ctl-Alt-Backspace and see the following: _X11TransSocketOpen: socket() failed for local _X11TransSocketOpenCOTSClient: Unable to open socket for local _X11TransOpen: transport open failed for local/vaio:0 The above three lines are repeated many times. The hostname of the machine is vaio. The reason I think they might be related is that both are problems opening sockets. Has anyone seen one or both of these problems? I can provide more detail if necessary. TIA. -- Neil L. Roeth [EMAIL PROTECTED]
