kMail crashed immediately when trying to fetch new mail from my imap server
until i deleted it's folder indizes from ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/imap.
Actually I deleted this whole directory so I also lost folder sorting
information etc. It now seems to work however, this si something which
should be automated or alternatively very well documented, otherwise it
will cause tons of unneccessary bug reports.

Ok, I'll then try to report the most serious problem I found on both lists.
f'up2 gmane.linux.debian.devel.qt-kde.

Using the new KDE packages, Xinerama support in kDesktop und Kicker seems to
be completely messed up while it works fine in kwin.

All desktop icons and all of Kicker's control bars only appear on the
primary monitor. Desktop icons which previously where on a different
monitor or are dragged to another monitor just end up being on the first /
primary one.

Kicker's control bars which where configured to sit on other monitors simply
disappeared completely, including the external task list. Only the control
bars on the first monitor are shown and work as expected.

I updated to Debian's KDE 3.4.3 before, so my system passed the C++
allocator transition cleanly. Using KDE 3.4.3 everything worked as
expected, just as it did with KDE 3.4.2 before the transition.

System is Debian SID, AMD64. Updated yetserday, verified that everything
worked, then updated to the experimental KDE 3.5 packages.

Greetings,

  Gunter

Mh, f'up2 doesn't seem to work to well with GMANE. :-(
What's the right ML to post followups to these problems?

Ok, this is KDE bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=116341, so no
packaging problem.

I misinterpreted the symptoms: It's kicker's autohide which doesn't work any
more for me. Panels set to autohide will hide just fine but won't reappear
if moving to their location with the mouse cursor.

Re: KDE 3.5.0 final packages now on alioth

2005-12-11 Thread Jean-Damien Durand
I have another box with 3.4.3 that I can update, and I will perhaps (!)
have the kmail/kontact crashes with the imap account. But I cannot predict
of course, so:
Before doing the upgrade, what correct action can I take to help you, in case
this is
an unreported bug? I plan to:
- keep a copy of my complete old .kde/share/apps/kmail/imap (let's say
imap343.tar)
- do the upgrade
- if kmail/kontact crashes then:
  - keep copy of the backtrace(s) [I remember having two different backtraces
on the
1st box]
  - keep copy of the new .kde/share/apps/kmail/imap (let's say imap350crash.tar)
  - delete my current ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/imap
  - Restart kmail/kontact, so that it will regenerate my imap folder,
and verify that there is no more any crash - tarball it to imap350ok.tar
  - redelete my current ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/imap
  - copy back again imap343.tar to ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/imap
  - verify it is reproducible
  - fill a bug report with links on the web for imap*.tar
- if it does not crash, mince alors...

Does it sound reasonable?

My problem is that it is not clear from bugs.kde.org if the crashes issues we
have with
kontact/kmail starting on an 3.4.3's imap are reported.

Thanks, Cheers, JD.

PS: Why, in the backtrace, do I see often lines with no symbol? A missing
debug-lib?

Stripped binaries, you'll need to recompile the relevant applications in
debug mode to get more meaningful backtraces.

Very disappointing for me, very good for you: no pb up to now on that second
box!

I know I have the backtraces of the crashes of the 1st box, but nothing
else unfortunately. I'll check again if all packages were really well ugpraded,
and will post a bug report if that is true - cannot do more unfortunately -;
Apologizes.

I hope others will not forget to backup their .kde (I should have know!) before
the upgrade, if that can be usefull, who knows.

Thanks, Cheers, JD.

You'll find it in today's mirror pulse. In fact, as of today's mirror
pulse, only the following packages depend on kdelibs4c2 on i386:

digikam
digikamimageplugins
plptools

  (will get rebuilt soon)

gambas
potracegui

(have build failures that will have to be investigated)

labplot

  (needs transitioned libvtk4-dev)

Checking just now, and digikam, kigikamimage, ksocrat, kimdaba,
showimg, celestia, kipi-plugins, superkaramba and tellico are all
listed for removal based on dependency of kdelibs4c2.

I guess I'll wait a few more days.

Ok, not digikam, that's something to do with libkipi0c2 conflicting
with libkipi0. Like I could tell the difference in the dark, ne?

Well, you can always get the source and recompile it yourself. That's what I
did for digikam, kipi-plugins, digikamimageplugins and tellico.
