Re Konqueror shortcuts ???

2002-12-11 Thread Greg James.
CTRL + MMButton opens a link in a new window...
Same as just the MMButton...
What i am talking about is opening a link in a new tab !!!
Plus i can not find anywhere where you can give input from the mouse in the
shortcut config window...
i am using KDE 3.1 (Karolina)

I have in "Settings/Configure Konqueror.../Behaviour/"
enable "Open links in new tab instead of in new window"

This gives me the following behaviour:
Shift + MMB opens a new window
MMB opens a new tab

Beware official Qt packages

2002-12-11 Thread Michael Schuerig

The official Qt packages have just been updated to Qt 3.1 (KDE qt-copy).
If you're using inofficial KDE 3.0.x packages, say from
download.xx.kde.org, the new Qt packages will play a number of tricks
on you...

To make sure Qt 3.0.5 stays installed, you can pin the packages involved
in /etc/apt/preferences like this:

Package: libqt3
Pin: version 3.0.5

Package: libqt3-dev
Pin: version 3.0.5

Package: libqt3-mt
Pin: version 3.0.5

Package: libqt3-mt-dev
Pin: version 3.0.5

Package: libqt3-doc
Pin: version 3.0.5

Package: qt3-doc
Pin: version 3.0.5

Package: qt3-tools
Pin: version 3.0.5

If you're using apt-get, it's likely that the 3.0.x packages are still
in your package cache at /var/cache/apt/archives. You'll probably be
able to go back to 3.0.x without too much pain. It worked for me.

Karolinas 3.1rc5?

2002-12-11 Thread Corey Kovacs
After updating this morning to rc5 from Karolina, KDE fails to start and I'm
having a bit of trouble figuring out why. I can log in as root (shudder...)
from either kdm or startx, but cannot log in as anyone else under either kdm
or startx. KDE simply stops at the staring of interprocess communications,
then backs out to the starting point. Is anyone else seeing this?

By the way, I've been VERY happy with the packaging karolina. Great job!

Is QT3.1 incompatible with KDE3.0.5 in general? If yes, why was it uploaded?

Font problems with kde3.1

2002-12-11 Thread Albert Cervera Areny
Hi,
I've got installed the kde3.1 packages (since today rc5) but since
yesterday (I think) I can't use KDE because any application that uses
kdelibs or qtlibs. The strange thing is that I can start gnome, use any
gtk or java (openoffice) application and fonts are correctly displayed
while in kde based applications no text is showed. Even more, any label
or button has an unusual length. For example, items in K-Menu make it
occupy the whole screen width as if the text was very long but there
isn't any text there!

I thought it might be a problem with anti-aliasing but I've even tried
to remove the .kde directory and the problem persists. In fact, I've
tried the following: running as root and user mode, re-installing
kdelibs, kdebase and qtlibs, re-installing all fonts but nothing has
solved the problem!

  Has somebody a clue?

Yes.

Because KDE 3.0.5 isn't in the main archive, so it doesn't really matter
that much. I suggest using KDE 3.1rc5; it kicks 3.0.x all over the park.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that KDE 3.0.x will never be uploaded and
KDE 3.1 will be uploaded post-haste (3.1rc5). The new Qt facilitates
this.

I've always wondered why Konsole doesn't include a full colour picker
for foreground, background, bold, inverse, etc., as is common with all
other terminal emulators I've ever used, and instead restricts us to a
fixed selection of themes. Does anyone know what the design decision
debate was here ?

[I use KDE 2.2.2, and don't know whether this is any more
"sophisticated" in KDE 3.x]

You can choose whatever you want in Konsole 3.0.x. But it looks very unsorted
to my as there are two checkboxes for transparency and all that and some
things simply do not seem to function right. Well, I don't need it that fancy
anyway but rather a well readable one: not easy but probably not caused by
console.

If X only had an alpha channel for true 32bit...
