Compiling Qt 3.0.4
My .profile file is as follows: tillarium:/home/tilleyrw# cat .profile QTDIR=/usr/local/qt PATH=$QTDIR/bin:$PATH MANPATH=$QTDIR/doc/man:$MANPATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$QTDIR/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH export QTDIR PATH MANPATH LD_LIBRARY_PATH But when I issue a ./configure I am told: tillarium:/usr/local/qt# ./configure The environment variable $QTDIR is not set correctly. It is currently set to "", but it should be set to this directory, which is "/usr/local/qt". Please read the INSTALL file for instructions on how to set $QTDIR correctly. If you have set $QTDIR in your .profile or .login, you will need to log out and log in again to make the setting effective. First, what's wrong? I've logged out and back in several times to verify that everything is read. Do I need to put the variable declarations into my .bashrc instead? Second, should I install Qt 3.0.4 on my box? As the Debian packagers are late (May 2nd anyone?) with XFree86 4.2 and KDE 3.x.y should I install the latest Qt in preparation for these packages? -- Any information or comments are most appreciated. installing cupsys-driver-gimpprint drivers
Hello all I managed it to run my Epson Stylus Color 880 (an USB Printer) using CUPS. First tried to cofigurate the Printer via the KDE Control Center but i failed (no useful output). Then i tried to manage the configuration via http://localhost:631/admin . In this way i had success. Now my question. I have in mind to use the Epson Stylus Color 880 Driver from cupsys-drive-gimpprint. But when I configure my Printer via http:// localhost:631/admin the menu doesn't find the gimpprint drivers (the control center way does). What do I have to do that I can install gimpprint driver via localhost? Configuration of Kmail
Hello as you can see I am a gmx user. Therefore I will configurate my gmx-pop- accounts. I already can download the emails from pop.gmx.net, but I cannot send emails via the smtp-sever of gmx (mail.gmx.net). I always get an error message. Does someone of you have managed to use kmail in combination with gmx.net? Thanks in advance for helping me Roland Wegmann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This shouldn't preclude you from getting the latest and compiling if you want. But don't feel like you need to do any work b/c packages aren't coming as fast as we'd like them. Sorry. I may be misunderstanding this. Good luck. multiple X sessions
Hi, Is there a way to manage multiple logins with kdm and X? I have an office computer which is often used by other people as well, and if somebody wants to read emails or do something, I have to log out.. or as an alternative solution I could start a new X server.. Is it possible to use the already running X server in a way that nobody can access my session, and the user can change among the running sessions, after he reauthenticated himself? I suppose not, but who knows.. :) thanks in advance, Gabor -- Gabor Gludovatz <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> - Phone: +36 (20) 9 109 129 http://www.sopron.hu/~ggabor/ * http://gludo.sopron.hu/gpg.txt GPG fingerprint: 8D0C 6AE8 5875 751E 5122-1DAE 4990 1A4E BC2E C8B9 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Yes, you can have as many as you want running. I used to have one on vt7 and vt8, each at a different resolution for various things. However, I ran into a few problems. The biggest was the video card. There is only so much memory those things have, and when you switch between them, it can screw some things up (just how they are displayed). You also run into the problem of how much physical memory and CPU time you have. If you want to do this effectively, make sure you have a beefy system. To do it, you just need to set up XDM to set up multiple screens. KDM uses the XDM stuff, so take a look at /etc/X11/xdm/ (or whereever they are for you) you will want to create new entries in there. My current setup is not normal, so I cant give any examples, but if you read the man pages for xdm you should be able to figure it out. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Can you be more specific about your e-mail error messages. kmail works great with smtp but often smtp servers will only forward e-mail for specific accounts (otherwise they are a potential open relay for spammers) - so it may depend on factors related to gmx. One solution is to run a mail server on your own linux box (try exim for instance), and get kmail to send mail out via this local server -- Alan Chandler [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". There is a file (/etc/X11/xdm/Xservers) in the xdm config dir, but with this one you start several X servers. And you have to predetermine how many users will use the computer at the same time. The perfect solution would be (as in WinXP...) to start only one X server, and when you lock your screen (you leave your computer) other users could login as well, without touching your existing session. And with a key combination you could change among the running sessions after having yourself reauthenticated. -- Gabor Gludovatz <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> - Phone: +36 (20) 9 109 129 http://www.sopron.hu/~ggabor/ * http://gludo.sopron.hu/gpg.txt GPG fingerprint: 8D0C 6AE8 5875 751E 5122-1DAE 4990 1A4E BC2E C8B9 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
