DPMS & KDE
I don't know if this is a debian-specific problem, but I've never gotten a satisfactory answer (or even any answer at all). I can't get DPMS to work properly with KDE. Let me say, first off that it works PERFECTLY with Blackbox, so it's not a problem with my X setup. When I run 'xset dpms force ', it does just what I tell it. BUT, if I'm running KDE, running xset doesn't do jack squat. My monitor just sits there, as if I had never done anything. And the kcontrol module doesn't do anything, either. It doesn't matter whether I'm using a version of KDE I've compiled or not - I've tried both .debs and CVS checkouts, and there's no difference. I don't think it has anything to do with the video card, because I had this problem with my G400 Max, and still have it with a GeForce2 MX. I'm running the latest sid, but I've had this problem for more than a year. -David Watson

Re: Docking Station and KDE?
The only light that I can shed on this is that it works OK on my machine. I downloaded direct from the Creatures website rather than using the CD, but the program updates itself when you run it anyway so that won't be the reason. I am using an upto-date Potato with the addition of the KDE packages from KDE net. About the only other non-Potato software that I have is Python version 2.0.1. There is a Linux Docking Station forum and also a technical FAQ accessible from http://ds.creatures.net/help.pl . Re: Installing KDE 2.1.1 kills the mouse in X
Problem solved! One question was: Do you run GPM? I did not before the install. But I did after the install. So I had a look at the GPM man pages and they say that GPM can cause trouble with X when using a busmouse. I do not know if a standard PS/2 mouse is a busmouse. (My mouse sits on the PS/2 port) But killing GPM (gpm -k) makes the mouse work in X. Since KDE 2.1.1 installation installs GPM as a service that starts when entering user runlevels, I have solved the problem by removing the GPM entries in the relevant runlevel directories (rc0.d through rc6.d) Although I will have to do without mouse support on the console, I will manage. Thanks for your help guys :o) Best regards Johnny :o)

What you call ugly, others call "Anti-Aliased." Try turning off anti- aliased fonts in the Control Panel. /paul hdcool ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) said: > > Hi, > I hope you got my latest email about my Xfree4.1.0 trouble with > kde2.2beta1-3... > As my system is now totally messed up of trying stuff i did the best > i could to show you the problem > > I run sid, Xfree4.1.0-2 and kde2.2-0.3-beta1 > > So: > adduser foo > login as foo > foo$ startx > ctrl+alt+backspace > foo$ startx > > this result: > )"'!()(!)!(&'(&(&'"(&("'("'( > > en closure, i add an url to see the screenshots: > this is after I just added user foo and started x with him: > > http://www.cluesoft.be/cluesoft/first_session.png > > and this is the one after I restarted X, all of the sudden, i have > a background, I have, ugly fonts in the taskbar+menu and hidious fonts > in konsole > > http://www.cluesoft.be/cluesoft/session_after_restart.png > > Thanks in advance, > > hdcool > > > > > -- > To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] > with a subject of "unsubscribe". Re: Installing KDE 2.1.1 kills the mouse in X
Have you tried adding Option "sw_cursor" to the device section in your XF86Config?

Did maybe happen something to the gpm package, i.e. was it installed before, and uninstalled after (or the other way round?) Can you give us your content of Section "Pointer" in /etc/X11/XF86Config, the location of your /dev/mouse symlink (if possible: both before and after the kde installation, but "after" will probably be good enough), and tell us what type of mouse it is? -- Andreas Trottmann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Re: links not launching Konqueror
I have found that in addition to the problems mentioned in my original post, left-clicking on a .html file on the desktop will not open it - nothing happens at all. Right-click and select "Open with Konqueror" and again nothing happens, but selecting "Open with Quanta" or "Open with StarOffice" both work fine. Konqueror wouldn't even start from the menu until I added "openProfile webbrowsing" to the kfmclient command. Is it possible that something like this is keeping Konqueror from opening in the other cases?
