Correct. And since this package build-depends on kaffe I think I can
directly use /usr/lib/kaffe/bin/javac.

I can override it from my rules file even if it is defined by =.

Before doing that, I think I must be sure that this bug I related with
this "wrong compiler" problem. But I'm not convinced this is the reason
of the bug reported by Roland Stigge.

  Let's try...

J2SE 1.4.2 SDK

2004-08-10 Thread Amir Tabatabaei
Hi,

I have 3 questions and I hope you can help me.
I had to use the tomcat-server, so I installed it and got the
kaffe-package as well. But I have to use the J2SE 1.4.2 SDK from sun, so
I download it and made a .deb package with mpkg-j2se. Then I installed
the .deb package with dpkg -i. So far so good.

There was also a message after builing the .deb package which was:
"You should also install the corresponding package with Debian specific
parts (e.g. apt-get install sun-j2sdk1.4debian)"

1. What does this mean? What should I install else with apt-get?

2. Is there a debian-way to build a package from the J2EE-Package from
sun, becauce I also need some libraries from the EE-package? I wasn't
able to do this with mpkg-j2se.

3. After installing my .deb package with dpkg -i, I'm not able to change
the java programs in /etc/alternatives. There are still the programs
from kaffe and a "update-alternatives --config java" gives me

"There is only 1 program which provides java
(/usr/lib/kaffe/bin/java). Nothing to configure"

Thanks
Amir

Yes and a more generic way is to set JAVA_HOME and then tell
JAVAC=$(JAVA_HOME)/bin/javac

So you may override it.

If you can't build it with kaffe, let me know... and if you can try it
with 'experimental' kaffe, it could be nice ;-)

Cheers,

Looking for a one-time sponsor

2004-08-10 Thread Daniel Bonniot
Hi,
I'm the pacakger for the 'nice' package (a compiler for a Java-like language).
I'm still in the new maintainer process, so I cannot upload to the archives
yet. The current nice package is quite outdated, and somebody filed a wishlist
big report (#262246) to get it updated. The problem is that my usual sponsor
has been very busy, and now has no internet access until the end of the month.

Could somebody please accept to upload once for me? There is very little
packaging change (just added a watch file), so there is not much risk that the
new version would be problematic. I would like to get in an up-to-date version
by the end of the week, so that it can migrate into sarge.

Thanks,
Daniel

Seems the runtime that is used doesn't support newer versions of class
file byte code (Unsupported major.minor version 48.0).
You are probably using a modern version of jikes that by default
generates this newer byte code. As far as I know all free runtimes in
main have been updated already to support it. But you can probably
downgrade the class byte code version used by giving jikes a -target 1.2
argument (see the jikes documentation).

I did -target 1.3
... and serlvet api is still in main, sorry for the whistle ;-)
No problem ;)

First gcj package in the archive

2004-08-10 Thread Jan Schulz
Hello,

The first gcj based package is in the archive:
http://packages.qa.debian.org/s/swt-gtk.html
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?src=swt-gtk

And already there are some problems:
* If ther are jni parts, the jni files need to be in LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
No idea if thatc an be worked around by using rpath in the build
prozess.
* The name of the package should IMO be libsomething-gcj

I have no idea what to do with this, but I feel that we should work on
a policy for this packages, otherwise we will have a mess (like the
above package is, at least from my point of view as a eclipse
maintainer).

Nice greetings, Jan

The more I think about it, the more I am convinced that this bug is
due to a Kjc bug.

My package perfectly compiles on Roland's system with jikes. So I have
uploaded an new libxp-java version which build-depends on Jikes.

I have just reassigned the 264247 bug to kjc.

We can work together on this if you want/need.
