Bug#245029: Acknowledgement (libc6: SIGSEGV in getgrouplist()/getpwnam())

2004-04-21 Thread BUCHMULLER Norbert
Isn't it CAN-2003-0689? (I have not seen that fixed in libc6's
changelog.Debian.gz.) The CAN itself states that versions 2.2.4 and older
are affected, but eg. http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/8477 says that even
2.2.5 in Woody is affected. So may it be right, or is this something else?

sysvinit doesn't contain mountkernfs.

There are issues with devpts.sh/mountkernfs/mountvirtfs but
they are well known and being tracked by other bug reports.

Bug#221982: glibc's at fault here...

# As the report says, glibc is doing things wrong apparantly
reassign 221982 glibc
retitle 221982 Shouldn't put nss modules in /lib
thanks

glibc is misplacing libnss_* according to Andrew Suffield.

Disclaimer: I don't know that these files do, I trust this to the
descretion of the glibc maintainers :).

Anyway, it's not lintian's fault that it is complaining about broken
packages, rather, it is lintian's job to do so. Please add overrides if
and where appropriate (f.e., if this is done for historic reasons), if
you don't want to get reminded of this misplacement on every lintian
run.

Feel free to discuss this bug with [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you like.

Thanks,

Package: lintian

E: lookupd: no-shlibs-control-file lib/libnss_lookupd-0.1.0.so

That's bogus, /lib/libnss_* aren't shared libraries (they're NSS
modules). It's pretty silly that glibc insists these are placed
directly in /lib, but we're stuck with it; lintian should ignore them
where appropriate.

This also applies to at least
sharedobject-in-library-directory-not-actually-a-shlib.

Package: libc6
Version: 2.3.2.ds1-11
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I tried compiling a kernel at first, but it told me it could not execute
a file.
   ./check_asm >> asm_offsets.h
/bin/sh: line 1: ./check_asm: cannot execute binary file

Then I tried compiling my own version of hello world and got this:
$ ./hello
-bash: ./hello: cannot execute binary file
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ldd /root/hello
/usr/bin/ldd: line 1: /lib64/ld-linux.so.2: cannot execute binary file
not a dynamic executable

Then I tried to ldd ldd
$ /usr/bin/ldd /usr/bin/ldd
/usr/bin/ldd: line 1: /lib64/ld-linux.so.2: cannot execute binary file
not a dynamic executable

There is something *seriously* wrong going on here.

That's not what I said. It sucks that glibc is keeping non-libraries
in a library directory, but we're stuck with that and it's not going
to change any time soon. lintian should ignore them, because they
aren't libraries.

is this a bug? conflict w/initscripts

2004-04-21 Thread Matt Price
hello glibc mainainers,

I screwed up badly with aptitude and wiped a good portion of my Sid
system (on powerpc), including libc6. Now trying to reinstall, and
having a terrible time with a conflict btwn libc6 and initscripts.
Here's the output of aptitude (on the command line):

Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? My system is
currently crippled and this problem blocks installation of everything
else!

thanks for your help,

Thanks,

That's bogus, /lib/libnss_* aren't shared libraries (they're NSS
modules). It's pretty silly that glibc insists these are placed
directly in /lib, but we're stuck with it; lintian should ignore them
where appropriate.

This also applies to at least
sharedobject-in-library-directory-not-actually-a-shlib.

Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

I tried compiling a kernel at first, but it told me it could not execute
a file.
   ./check_asm >> asm_offsets.h
/bin/sh: line 1: ./check_asm: cannot execute binary file

Then I tried compiling my own version of hello world and got this:
$ ./hello
-bash: ./hello: cannot execute binary file

/usr/bin/ldd: line 1: /lib64/ld-linux.so.2: cannot execute binary file

Then I tried to ldd ldd
$ /usr/bin/ldd /usr/bin/ldd
/usr/bin/ldd: line 1: /lib64/ld-linux.so.2: cannot execute binary file

There is something *seriously* wrong going on here.

That's not what I said. It sucks that glibc is keeping non-libraries
in a library directory, but we're stuck with that and it's not going
to change any time soon. lintian should ignore them, because they
aren't libraries.

Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? My system is

else!

thanks for your help,
