--- Comment #8 from steven at gcc dot gnu dot org 2008-01-30 09:10 ---
How did you configure gcc (i.e. command line)? What is the output if you
compile with -v?

hi,

gcc-4.0 makes boost 1.33.x FTBFS on hppa. this bug is probably the
same of #342245 for gcc-3.4, only that gcc-4.0 _never_ built 1.33.x on
that architecture.

the full log is available at
http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?&pkg=boost&ver=1.33.0-2&arch=hppa&stamp=1130099046&file=log&as=raw.

i'm again available to delve further into this if only i get some hint
of the direction to follow. anyway i'd be probably able to only extract
more info, surely not to to fix the compiler itself.

thanks

Package: gcc-4.0
Version: 4.0.2-5
Severity: normal

When I compile the following simple code, gcc fails with:
/tmp/ccySlj9q.s: Assembler messages:
/tmp/ccySlj9q.s:56: Error: missing or invalid immediate expression `'
taken as 0

I've ran gcc -S in the code and I found a "call $" in the compiled code
for parse_cmd.

Here is the code:

 int sleep_h;
 int max_level;

 int i = 1;
 while (i < argc) {

Version numbering of gcc-4.3 packages

2008-01-30 Thread Ludovic Brenta
I did the first upload of gnat-4.3 (= 4.3-20080127-1) yesterday and
was surprised that it was rejected because the upload did not contain
the .orig.tar.gz file. That was in turn caused by dh_genchanges
excluding the .orig.tar.gz from the .changes file. The ultimate
culprit is the bizarre version numbering scheme involving two dashes.

Of course, I rebuilt and uploaded using dpkg-buildpackage -sa but I
should not have to do that and I think it is better to fix the problem
than work around it.

Therefore I propose we switch to using the tilde for prereleases:
4.3.0~20080127-1, etc. Unfortunately, the ".0" is necessary to make
the next version "larger than" 4.3-20080127-1. OTOH, the next release
of GCC will indeed be 4.3.0, not 4.3.

We can implement this scheme with the next upload.

OK?

 GNAT, the GNU Ada compiler, uses project files to organise source and object
 files in large-scale development efforts. Several other tools, such as
 ASIS tools (package asis-programs) and GNAT Programming Studio (package
 gnat-gps) also use project files. This library contains the necessary
 support; it was built from GNAT itself.  It is licensed under the pure GPL;
 all programs that use it must also be distributed under the GPL, or not
 distributed at all.

 This package contains development files: install it to develop applications
 that understand GNAT project files.

This code appears to build ok with g++-4.3 -Os. The package as a whole
fails to build under g++-4.3, though.
