gnat-4.1/gcj-4.1 manual builds needed on alpha, arm, m68k, mips, mipsel, s390, sparc
While having built and uploaded things correctly for experimental, I didn't do the same for unstable, which now needs some manual intervention building gnat-4.1 and gcj-4.1. gnat-4.1 (mips mipsel s390 sparc): - work in a sid chroot - install gnat-4.1-base libgnat-4.1 libgnatprj4.1 libgnatvsn4.1 from etch - fetch gnat-4.1 from etch - dpkg -x gnat-4.1_4.1.1-22_*.deb - rm -rf usr/lib/gcc/*/4.1.3 - tar cf - usr | (cd /; tar xfv -) - ln -sf ../4.1.2/gnat1 /usr/lib/gcc/$arch-linux-gnu/4.1/gnat1 - ln -sf ../4.1.2/adalib /usr/lib/gcc/$arch-linux-gnu/4.1/adalib - ln -sf ../4.1.2/adainclude /usr/lib/gcc/arch-linux-gnu/4.1/adainclude - build with dpkg-buildpackage -b -B -d (ignoring the gnat-4.1 b-d) - undo at least the symlinks in the chroot, or throw away the chroot gcj-4.1 (alpha arm m68k mips mipsel s390 sparc): - needs gcc-4.1_4.1.2 (not yet built on arm and m68k) - work in a sid chroot - install gcj-4.1-base libgcj7-0 libgcj7-jar libgcj7-dev libgcj7-awt gij-4.1 from etch - install other b-d's from sid - build as an extra check, build the package with itself (although this will be done with the next uploads anyway). It seems to only generate a gnu hash now. Looking at the difference in sections between -4 and -5, .hash got replaced by a .gnu.hash section. I assumed from the changelog that it would be using both, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I think it's just a bug in readelf that it can't deal with the gnu hash. Bug#388246: Is the application of the GFDL to the gcc manpage a GNU or a Debian decision?
The license information in the GCC manpage at the bottom is decidedly weird. It refers to invariant sections that can't be found in the GCC manpage. On this topic, I have emailed debian-legal, to this effect: On 03/05/07, MJ Ray <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Jordi Gutierrez Hermoso <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > I'm rather confused. The GCC maintainers put the manpage in non-free > along with the rest of the GCC docs. The manpage says at the bottom > that it's covered by the GFDL and mentions invariant sections that > aren't in the manpage. Huh? What does this mean as far as the location > of the manpage and the GFDL/Debian fiasco? It probably means that the GCC maintainers have misused the FDL by accident, similar to the GDB maintainers in the past. I feel putting a manpage under the FDL is stupid because then the manpage has to include a copy of the FDL, which is far longer than a typical manpage. This may be related to bug 412272 or bug 388246 Please report a bug against gcc-doc (or gcc?) if you agree that non-inclusion of the FDL means that the man page is undistributable. If you would like to take it further, please research whether the GCC maintainers know that using the FDL for a manpage has problems. Some GNU projects use info files, so maybe the manpage in non-free was not made by them - in which case, it says nothing about the GNU FDL fiasco. If it is their man page, then it means yet another mature GNU project has been confused by the FDL. Hope that helps, So what, exactly, is the status of the GFDL and GCC's manpage? I still insist that no GCC manpage is a serious policy violation, especially considering the importance of a package like GCC. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Unable to build GCC under Debian Etch x86_64
My dev host is a x86_64 machine and I am trying to build a cross-compiler for a i386 machine. I was able to successfully build the first stage or bootstrap GCC. However, I'm getting inexplicable errors when doing the final compilation. My command line is something like this: $ ../gcc-4.0.3/configure --target=$TARGET --prefix=$PREFIX $ make all I have tried with GCC versions 4.0.3 as well as 4.11, with identical results. Here is the error. Any ideas? ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:119: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:119: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:119: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:122: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:122: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:122: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:125: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:125: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:125: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:128: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:128: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:128: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:137: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:137: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:137: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:142: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:142: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:142: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:145: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:145: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:145: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:151: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:151: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:151: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:154: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:154: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:154: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:157: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:157: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:157: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:158: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:158: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:158: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:161: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:161: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:161: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:164: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:164: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:164: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:167: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:167: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:167: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:200: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:200: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:200: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:203: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:203: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:203: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:206: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:206: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:206: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:209: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:209: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:209: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:212: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:212: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:212: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:215: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:215: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:215: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:218: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:218: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:218: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:221: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:221: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:221: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:224: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:224: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:224: Misplaced }. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:225: Unknown command `gcctabopt'. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:225: Misplaced {. ../../gcc-4.0.3/fastjar/fastjar.texi:225: Misplaced }. makeinfo: Removing output file `fastjar.info' due to errors; use --force to preserve. make[2]: *** [fastjar.info] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/dallas/crossbuild/build-gcc/gcc- 4
