This actually won't work, the correct version is (>= 2.17cvs20070426-1).

Bug#421249: apt-get install libssp0 fails, apt-get -b source libssp0 does not build package

2007-04-27 Thread Ulf Mehlig
Ok, I found this

 gcc-4.1 (4.1.1-11) unstable; urgency=low

   * The "Our priority are our users, remove the documentation!" release.

   [Matthias Klose]

   * Only build the libssp package, if the target libc doesn't provide
 ssp support.

in the gcc changelogs. Should have checked before :-)

What about the packages depending on libssp0? I suppose one has to wait until
the respective maintainers change the dependencies? No need to file bugreports?

Thanks, Ulf

Bug#421252: Hello says `goodbye'

2007-04-27 Thread B. Lazarov

Package: gfortran
Version:4.1.1-21

When I try to compile lapack 3.1.1 from netlib I am getting serious errors in
the testing routines. These problems does not exists in SUSE 10.1 with
gfortran 4.1.0. I tried also to install different versions of gcc/gfortran
and compile lapack with them and it seems that the problem exists in all
versions 4.xx. The testing fails in the single complex routines. If
necessary I can send also the output. I have tested the compilation with
both BLAS suplied with the lapack library and GotoBLAS.

I guess the problem is in some of the libraries outside of the gcc/gfortran
but I can not understand in which one.

I have tried compilation on Debian Etch 4 installed from dvd iso image on AMD
Opteron x2 and also on Intel Core2 Duo

After a "apt-get dist-upgrade", i didn't have gnome anymore.

When i try to reinstall, there is a dependency problem.
It seems that the origin of the problem is gcc-4.1-base.
libssp0 is one of the gnome dependency.

Bug#421309: gnat-4.1: please upload 4.1.2 to resync with gcc-4.1

2007-04-27 Thread Aaron M. Ucko
Package: gnat-4.1
Version: 4.1.1-22
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable (uninstallable)

Could you please upload GNAT 4.1.2 to unstable ASAP? As it stands,
cpp-4.1's conflict with gnat-4.1 (<= 4.1.1-22) makes gnat-4.1
uninstallable on systems that don't still have suitably old GCC
installations. Moreover, GCC's tight interpackage dependencies make
it impossible even to upgrade GCC's shared libraries while GNAT is
installed, blocking upgrades of anything built against them recently
(quite a few packages, as the issue affects pretty much everything
written in C++).

Thanks!

Hmm. Interestingly this went away when 421301 gets fixed (i.e. the
symlinks are right).

Used apt-get to obtain gcc-4.1 but it seems to favour x86-64 architecture

2007-04-27 Thread Rob1weld
I am using Debian gnu/Linux on an Athlon-mp (dual-core, k7) and used
Aptitude and Apt-get to upgrade my software recently.

This e-mail address is listed on the Aptitude screen as the "Maintainer" for
"gcc-4.1" (when pre-compiled and downloaded with Aptitude).

The "gcc -v" is:

Target: i486-linux-gnu
Configured with: ../src/configure -v
--enable-languages=c,c++,fortran,objc,obj-c++,treelang --prefix=/usr
--enable-shared --with-system-zlib
--libexecdir=/usr/lib --without-included-gettext --enable-threads=posix
--enable-nls
--program-suffix=-4.1 --enable-__cxa_atexit --enable-clocale=gnu
--enable-libstdcxx-debug --enable-mpfr --with-tune=i686
--enable-checking=release i4
86-linux-gnu
Thread model: posix
gcc version 4.1.2 20061115 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-21)

I am one of the people compiling and checking gcc-4_2-branch - I have
compiled it many times but only recently with gcc-4.1 (obtained from you).

When I try to compile gcc-4_2-branch (20070427) I run into trouble that
seems to involve the ABI of the system used to compiled the version of the GCC
toolchain that you released. The above "gcc -v" makes no mention of multilibs
or
-m64 but when I compile gcc-4_2-branch using your toolchain I run into
trouble with it thinking that I want 64bit code.

If I _DO_ ./configure gcc-4_2-branch with the parameter --enable-multilib
then ./configure sets this in the makefile: "CFLAGS=-O2 -g -O2 -m64" .

If I do _NOT_ use --enable-multilib then -m64 _still_ appears in some (but
not all) the Makefiles.

After configuring (with no attempt to use a 64 bit ABI) and then typing
"make" the compile gets as far as through all three stages and into the first
library
(zlib) but then fails when it goes on to the next library (libstdc++-v3).

Anyways, here is the make error that turns up, eventually.
