Re: Bug#537110: ITP: libdap -- A C++ SDK contains an implementation of DAP 2.0 and 3.1, Client- and Server-side support classes and a prototype implementation of the AIS

2009-07-15 Thread Youhei SASAKI
Hi, Faidon

> Could you include a brief description of DAP and AIS?
> Reading this description made absolutely no sense to me.

DAP is Data Access Protocol. AIS is Ancillary Information Services
provides some syntax and semantics.
  - syntax: the computer representation of a data object, data types
and structures at the computer level; e.g., This data is a
floating point array of 20 by 40 elements.
  - semantics: The information about the contents of an object; e.g.,
This data is sea surface temperature in degrees Celsius for a
certain region of the Earth.

This library provides C++ SDK for OpeNDAP(Opensource Network Data
Access Protocol). OpeNDAP is a framework that simplifies all aspects
of scientific data networking.

OPeNDAP provides software which makes local data accessible to remote
locations regardless of local storage format. OPeNDAP also provides
tools for transforming existing applications into OPeNDAP clients
(i.e., enabling them to remotely access OPeNDAP served data).

  Description : Rake-based Ruby Extension (C, Java) task generator

 The rake-compiler is first and foremost a productivity tool for Ruby
 developers. It's goal is to make the busy developer's life easier by
 simplifying the building and packaging of Ruby extensions by
 simplifying code and reducing duplication.
 .
 It follows *convention over configuration* by advocating a standardized
 build and package structure for both C and Java based RubyGems.
 .
 Rake-compiler is the result of many hard-won experiences dealing with
 several diverse RubyGems that provided native extensions for different
 platforms and different user configurations in different ways. Details
 such as differences in code portability, differences in code clarity,
 and differences in project directory structure often made it very
 difficult for newcomers to those RubyGems.

Bug#672507: ITP: ruby-posix-spawn -- Ruby Implementation of posix_spawn(2) for faster process spawning

2012-05-11 Thread Youhei SASAKI
Package: wnpp
Owner: Youhei SASAKI
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: ruby-posix-spawn
  Version : 0.3.6
  Upstream Author : Ryan Tomayko, Aman Gupta
* URL or Web page : http://github.com/rtomayko/posix-spawn
* License : LGPL-2.1+, Expat
  Description : Ruby Implementation of posix_spawn(2) for faster process
spawning

 The posix-spawn library aims to implement a subset of the Ruby 1.9
 `Process::spawn` interface in a way that takes advantage of fast
 process spawning interfaces when available and provides sane fallbacks
 on systems that do not.
 .
 `fork(2)` calls slow down as the parent process uses more memory due to
 the need to copy page tables. In many common uses of fork(), where it
 is followed by one of the exec family of functions to spawn child
 processes (`Kernel#system`,`IO::popen`, `Process::spawn`, etc.), it's
 possible to remove this overhead by using the use of special process
 spawning interfaces (`posix_spawn()`, `vfork()`, etc.)

Simply, Yes.

This library is a largish compatible subset of Ruby 1.9's
`Process::spawn interface` and enhanced versions of `Kernel#system`,
`Kernel#`, etc. under Ruby >= 1.8.7 (currently MRI only).

And, some other useful Ruby extended library depends this,
ruby-posix-spawn library. Thus I submit ITP report.

Best Wishes

 * not generating reams of code for you to debug
 .
 Parslet takes the long way around to make your job easier. It allows for
 incremental language construction. Often, you start out small, implementing
 the atoms of your language first; _parslet_ takes pride in making this
 possible.

 more clear and identifiable, the letterforms are simplified by omitting
 hane (hook) and geta (the vertical lines extending beyond horizontal
 strokes at the bottom of kanji). Counters and other spaces are finely
 adjusted so that the overall balance of the type is not impaired even
 with the use in relatively large size. The kana are made slightly
 smaller than the kanji to give a good rhythm and flow when setting long
 texts in the lighter weights.
