Hi,

I've tried to Bild the i386 DVD-Image. But it failed, because the file

OK. In that case I think the only realistic thing to do here is to drop
brltty from the netinst image. It will of course be kept on full CDs.

I think that is acceptable given the following considerations:
- the brltty deb is installed in finish-install
- the netinst is intended to always be used with a mirror
- if a mirror is available, brltty will continue too be installed without
  any problems
- IMO doing a netinst installation without using a mirror makes no sense
for visually handicapped users as it only really makes sense for testing
and for deliberate absolute minimal installs

Given the above I think that keeping a 5MB dependency for something that's
needed only in exceptional cases by a very small group of users is not
worth it.

I would suggest adding a dialog in the brltty-udeb finish-install script
to warn users if the deb was not installed correctly, but given the above
I don't think having that dialog is a requirement before we could drop
the package from netinst images.

Unless there are strong arguments against this proposed change, I will
commit it in a few days.

Cheers,
FJP

No, this does not affect brltty support during the installation itself at
all! It only changes where the brltty package *for the installed system*
is retrieved from in the case of installs using the netinst CD.

In the current situation the package is included on the CD itself and can
be copied from there; in the new situation it will have to be retrieved
from a mirror. That's all.

The installation itself will continue to have full brltty support.

Cheers,
FJP

Hello maintainer,

While performing an archive wide checkbashisms (from the 'devscripts' package)
check I've found your package containing one or more /bin/sh scripts making
use of bashisms.

checkbashisms' output:
> possible bashism in ./usr/share/debian-cd/tools/grab_md5 line 25 (echo -e):
> echo -e "Using MD5 sums from Sources files:\n$FILES"
> possible bashism in ./usr/share/debian-cd/tools/grab_md5 line 53 (echo -e):
> echo -e "Using MD5 sums from Packages files:\n$FILES"

Not using bash (or a Debian Policy conformant shell interpreter which does
provide such an extra feature) as /bin/sh is likely to lead to errors or
unexpected behaviours.
Please be aware that although bash is currently the default /bin/sh there's a
release goal for Lenny to make dash the default /bin/sh[1].

If you want more information about dash as /bin/sh, you can read:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2008/01/msg00189.html

For more information please refer to the Debian Policy section 10.4 supporting
this argument at:
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s-scripts

Hints about how to fix bashisms:
Sometimes these bugs are already fixed in Ubuntu, look at the PTS.
If not already fixed you can read:

i make use of the KERNEL_PARAMS variable when creating custom

that it is only supported on i386 and amd64... why should other
architectures miss out on the fun?

please consider the attached patch (untested) to add support for
KERNEL_PARAMS to powerpc, alpha and sparc.

not sure how the other arches work to even try...

While monitoring a build I noticed that d-cd currently does a separate call
to 'apt-cache showsrc' through tools/apt-selection for _each_ source
package. This must be very expensive and account for a major part of the
total build time of full CD/DVD builds.

Currently, the KDE and Xfce versions of Debian CD weekly builds still
try to install GNOME when booted via win32-loader, because the KERNEL_PARAMS
variable has no effect (as it's only used by syslinux).

win32-loader has this setting built-in in its config file, win32-loader.ini.
With this patch, CD builders can select the desired default desktop by
exporting the DESKTOP variable.

Hi,

syslinux 3.71+dfsg-4 has just made it through NEW. please recommend the
(new) syslinux-common binary package, which is arch all and only
contains the bootloader files in /usr/lib/syslinux, rather on the arch
any syslinux binary package.

Package: debian-installer
Version: lenny beta 2
Severity: normal

This problem applies to both the newt as well as the gtk interface.
When encrypting the root partition using loop-aes (cipher AES256)
the system hangs in the initramfs shell after reboot, waiting for the
root files system.

1. During the installation the GPG keyfile gets stored under
/target/etc/loopkeys/ and not copied into the initrd image.

2. The following required binaries and libs are missing in the
initrd image:
/bin/gpg
/sbin/losetup
/lib/libresolv.so.2
/lib/libusb-0.1.so.4
/lib/libz.so.1

3. The initrd is missing a script probing for AES-encrypted partitions
and asking for passphrases

Fixing this would probably require some modifications to
/usr/lib/finish-install.d/05crypto.
