Problems with the .template checksum

2007-05-12 Thread Bhasker C V
All,

I downloaded the latest jigdo and the .template files from

http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/4.0_r0/i386/jigdo-dvd/

and I get this when i enter jigo-lite

>>>
Error - template checksum mismatch!
The .template file does not belong to the .jigdo file - the
chances are high that the image generation process will break.
I will abort now. If you know better than me and want this error
to be ignored, enter the string "42" to proceed.
<<<

Please advice me if i can proceed with image creation ? Is there a real
issue with the image checksum mismatch or am i doing something wrong on
my side ?

Yes, it should work AFAICT!

I thought about SHA1 when I first came up with the file format. At the
time, MD5 was already considered weakend because different content with
matching MD5s had been found. Still, in the end I decided against SHA1
because the individual file checksums are not security sensitive - CRC64
would be just as fine IMHO.

However, in hindsight I probably should have used SHA1 for the template
file hash and for the hash of the final image.

Cheers,

  Richard

Have you tried to re-download the templates? I used rsync and jigdo
says the checksumms match.

If after downloading again you still get this error you might try to
proceed. If the image checksum matches there's no problem.
