Ok, so who or what is to blame?  Any ideas folks?  Should I roll back to
a release version, or what?

You should use CVS ("cvs -D" is your friend) to find out who submitted the
change that breaks things for you.

Which of course depends on finding out what change broke it.  I have no
experience with debian-cd; this is my first trial and error.

Has anyone else seen this problem happen?
