Suggestion

2004-05-27 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hello,
I want to suggest you to offer an official netinstall boot CD for download.
Currently, http://www.debian.org/CD/netinst/ makes no good impression to
visitors (you say that no official netinstall boot CD is available and
refer to the 2003 break-in).
Thanks,
Christian

I believe that should be changed, the official place for the testing cds is
now http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/cdimage-testing/ and you can also get your
precious rsync access at rsync://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage-testing/

Any webmaster around that could change the url for the cds?

Regards...

Thanks for the info! It's much easier to use rsync than http to keep a
mirror in sync.

I've been playing with the daily netinst images for sarge, and have
managed to install sarge with root on LVM on RAID (using *SEVERAL*
work-arounds). I'm working on writing up the procedure for use by others.

/me wanders off to find appropriate list for debian installer issues

Hi, I've changed the links. Sorry, somehow I completely missed that that
location has changed. What is the difference to the files on gluck? Judging
from the timestamps, the files on gluck are still updated weekly.

Official Mirrors for stable .jigdo files broken

2004-05-27 Thread Richard Atterer
Hi,

another thing which I should have reacted on earlier: The official
locations for US/European mirrors of the stable .jigdo files have been
broken for *MONTHS*. I mailed Phil about this various times without success
- no idea what happened to him. :-/

The problem is that the .jigdo files on non-us.cdimage make jigdo-lite try
to download from us.cdimage. But us.cdimage used to be raff (the old raff!)
which has been down for ages... ATM, the only working .jigdo files are at

So, we really need

 - an official mirror in Europe. Matthias, could we use farbror aka cdimage
for this? ATM, it only appears to redirect to the broken files on
non-us.cdimage when you try to access

 - a USA mirror. How does one go about having mirroring set up e.g. on
   newraff?

Cheers,

  Richard

We might be able to host this here depending on the hardware you'd need.
I do know spohr is hosted here but I'll leave that one up to the
debian-admins.

The files on gluck and on cdimage.debian.org are the same, they are
generated on gluck and then mirrored to cdimage.debian.org, gluck was having
too much network load, nobody could work on it as it was overloaded with all
the cds, so we have thrown the load on to cdimage.debian.org.

And yes, the dvds and full cds are still generated weekly, only the netinst
images are generated daily and in four brands per arch ;-)

It is a auto-updating mirror, it has rsync access, it has more bandwidth,
and gluck has been known to have issues with the load of serving testing
cdimages.

Yes, we could, assuming it doesn't take up too much space. It is also
suboptimal for the reason that one of the reasons for splitting
cdimage.d.o out is that people should still be able to generate isos from
jigdos even if the public mirrors get swamped for a few days/weeks at
release time.

But then, this is better than broken jigdos all the time.
