Debian DVD

2003-03-15 Thread Travis Place
Hi,

I have a DVD-RW drive, and wish to make a Debian DVD..However, i have the
problem that i can only download 3Gb per month, without having to pay 13c per
mb after that..

My ISP allows for some downloads from "FREE" sites which dont count towards my
3Gb Quota..I have obtained, from one of those "FREE" sites, the 7 'woody'
CDs.

My question is this..

Is there a way to use those 7 cd's to build a DVD iso, so i can burn it, and
install from it etc. ?

If so, how would i go about this ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks,
Travis.

If you download the CD's and extract the contents to a mirror directory.

Configure jigdo to use this mirror directory as its primary source of
data.

Use jigdo to build your dvd image, any files it doesnt find in your
mirror dir it will download.

Travis,

If / when you can find a jigdo site for the dvd image use jigdo.

After you have downloaded the template and .jigdo for the dvd you can run it
repeatedly using your cdrom as source with each debian cd in turn.

If your cds and the jigdo dvd are the same revision you will never have to
download a byte.

Problem is I don't know if the dvd jigdo mirror was ever sorted out.

you can always use debian-cd on your local mirror if there are no
jigdos available and configure apt to get missing packages (e.g. for
non-US or contrib) from the net

As the others said, you can do this with jigdo *if* someone makes some
.jigdo/.template files for a woody DVD.

FWIW, I've been experimenting with DVD creation in the last days. The
template file for the i386 DVD ends up at about 70 MB of additional data to
download.

But I'll need to make a change to debian-cd before I can build the .jigdo
files the way I like (with a pre-configured fallback server URL...), which
has so far prevented me from doing the whole set.

Cheers,

  Richard

Custom Debian ISO howto

2003-03-15 Thread Nick Golder
I need to build a custom ISO with a custom kernel and can't seem to find
any comprehensive howtos. I have found some bits and pieces about
building custom boot disk and such which I would imagine is apart of the
procedure. Could someone point me or even give some generic ideas on
where to start?
