www.debian.org/CD/netinst/

2003-03-05 Thread Martin Sjögren
Hello

The www.d.o/CD/netinst page does not make clear that the testing netinst
CDs are meant for testing debian-installer. There have been numerous
people mailing d-boot about not being able to use it to install sarge.

This *must* be made clear! Since several web pages and people recommend
people to use testing if they think the release schedule for stable is
too slow, they see testing netinst images and think "great, no need to
go to stable first" and then complain when it doesn't work.

Please fix this. If I should file a bug somewhere about this, please let
me know. ;)

/Martin

Of course the real fix is for you to finish the installer ;-), but I take
your point. I've just added the following to the page, hope that's OK:

The images are only intended for testing the new installer for
sarge. The installer is still under development, so the installation
may fail.

Cheers,

  Richard

I expect the powers that be (Craig small in this case) are just being a bit
slow. A polite reminder that you really would like to get listed would be
in order if nothing happens for another week.

Yes, you know how impatient these vendors get. I did a batch yesterday.
I know I've got another 5 to go.

New jigdo mailing list and CVS repository at berlios.de

2003-03-05 Thread Richard Atterer
Hello,

I would like to invite people who are interested in jigdo to subscribe to
the jigdo-user mailing list I have set up at berlios.de.

In case you don't know, jigdo is the program used for the distribution of
Debian CD/DVD images. It creates the CD images on the downloader's machine
by fetching individual .deb packages and assembling them into an .iso
image.

Currently, the download is performed by a shell script which runs wget, but
I'm busy working on a graphical, "download manager"-like application.

The BerliOS project (a German non-commercial SourceForge-like site) also
provides me with a CVS repository, so interested parties can try out
bleeding-edge code if they like. :)
