Exactly, it doesn't matter on which CD kernel 2.4.16 ends ... it could
as well be completely removed since we have 2.4.18.

Done.

Looks like someone needs to do the same for DEFBINSIZE * DEFSRCSIZE.

Er, I guess "I have the powers", but AFAICT the info is all there.
Although I've never tried it myself, the CDs ought to support PPP
installs - and the page clearly says so. If you follow the "detailed
info about the installation" link at the bottom of the page, sooner or
later you will end up e.g. at
,
which explains setting up PPP during the installation.

Hope this helps,

  Richard

PS: Is there any hope for official netinst images?

problem with jidgo

2002-05-06 Thread Ivan Lopez-Arevalo

Hello ...

I am using jidgo (for windows) for download the Debian CD images, but the next
message appear:

Oops - not all files could be downloaded...

Depending on the situation, it may help to just restart the download.
Also, you could try changing to another Debian or Non-US server, in
case the one you used was not updated recently.

On the other hand, it may also be that some required files have
disappeared. If the image is still available on an rsync server, you
can try to complete it that way. For another option, read the README.

If you want to restart, press Enter; otherwise press Ctrl-C or close
this window (if running in one).

I re-start and the jidgo program try download the next files:

../doc/package-developer/developers-reference.pdf
../doc/package-developer/developers-reference.txt.gz
../doc/package-developer/developers-reference.html.tar.gz

I have tried with other server, I check the ftp server's and this files are, but
the problem continue

What happen ??

Thanks ...

Re: problem with jidgo

2002-05-06 Thread Martijn Stegeman

I've asked this off-list, and the problem seems to be that the Servers
defined in the jigdo are not recognized by jigdo-easy2win.

An intermediate solution is to locate these values yourself in the jigdo
file, and enter them manually as the servers. You can simply restart
jigdo-easy2win, choose the same options but now enter different servers.

These Server lines usually specify a different directory on the server
you got the jigdo file from in the first place.

Martijn

That's a problem with how the jigdo files were generated. You can
probably fix it by interrupting jigdo-easy, then creating a directory
called "tmp" in the same dir as the .iso.tmp file and placing in it
the following files, which you should download manually:

http://cdimage.debian.org/2.2r6-snapshot/doc/package-developer/developers-reference.html.tar.gz
http://cdimage.debian.org/2.2r6-snapshot/doc/package-developer/developers-reference.pdf
http://cdimage.debian.org/2.2r6-snapshot/doc/package-developer/developers-reference.txt.gz

Afterwards, restart jigdo-easy, it will hopefully pick up the files
and finish the image creation.

Cheers,

  Richard

Indeed they aren't - additionally, for the 2.2r6 release the jigdo
files by mistake don't even contain a server line for the 2.2r6
snapshot on cdimage, so the download fails even with jigdo-lite, not
just jigdo-easy.

isolinux falures

2002-05-06 Thread Santiago Garcia Mantinan

Hi!

After testing isolinux in a small number of machines I have came across
several cases of falure, I have already reported falures on Fujitsu Pentium
machines, now this one is relating scsi cards.

After seing all this it makes me think if by using isolinux we are going for
better or for worst, I mean, we used to have a cd that was able to boot on
almost all kind of machines, now we have one that boots on most of the ide
based machines and on some of the scsi ones, otherwise you have to try
cds from 2 to 5 to see if any works for you. Is it just me or does anybody
else think we are going for worst? What about eltorito multiboot? it didn't
work as multiboot on all machines, but at least it booted.

Anyway, let's go for the Debug dump of isolinux that I got on this machine,
the scsi card is a symbios 53c875J based Diamond, and this is the dump:

ISOLINUX 1.66 2002-01-01
isolinux: Starting up, DL=F0
isolinux: Sector size appears to be 0800
isolinux: Loading main image from LBA=0F8A
isolinux: Sectors to load=0004
isolinux: Disk error 00, drive F0
Boot failed: press a key to retry...

I'm willing to test whatever you propose to solve this problem.

BTW: On both this machines (the Fujitsu and this scsi machine) eltorito
multiboot worked ok, either by booting the default image or by showing the
menu.

El Torito BIOSes are absolute crap. There is no question about it.
Unfortunately there is right now *NO* configuration which works on all
machines. If you want a configuration that works on all machines,
you're talking boot floppies. It really is that bad.

With "El Torito Multiboot" I presume you are talking about floppy
emulation mode (all of this is El Torito.)

That's now fixed --- and I've compressed the .jigdo files too.

I didn't know about the [Servers] section when I did those (and you've

If you mean if it has a bios on the scsi board it does, if you mean where
can one download a bios to have a look at it... the url I get is this one:
ftp://ftp.diamondmm.com/pub/multimedia/fireport/FP40906.exe wich is a winzip
selfextracting file, or I have put the contents for you to download on
http://ftp.manty.net/download/diamond/ the new rom is fireport.rom and the
old one is 405d.rom both behave in the same way when booting from
isolinux cds. If I didn't understand the question please ask again.

> With "El Torito Multiboot" I presume you are talking about floppy

Yes, it is floppy emulation, it is based on this option of mkisofs:

   -eltorito-alt-boot
Start with a new set of "El Torito" boot parame-
ters. This allows to have more than one El Torito
boot on a CD. A maximum of 63 El Torito boot
entries may be put on a single CD.

This allows for different boots to be available, thus the multiboot name.

In this scsi bios only the first of the boot entries is seen, but it boots
it perfectly.

The point was that the boot menu function and the no emulation vs. hard
disk emulation vs. floppy emulation are orthogonal.

It appears that really old BIOSes work like crap for anything but floppy
emulation; some contemporary BIOSes like crap for anything but no
emulation. This seems to follow what the current Micro$oft OSes use,
i.e. again -- the BIOS vendors test "does it boot M$, ok then."

tools/boot/woody/boot-i386

2002-05-06 Thread Jim Westveer

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: MD5

The line in ...tools/boot/woody/boot-i386 that reads:

echo -n "-cache-inodes -J -b isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/boot.cat
- -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table " > $N.mkisofs_opts

I beleive should read . >> $N.mkisofs_opts

The way it is currently, it overwrites the default MKISOFS options
that are set in CONF.sh.
