2.2r5 images available for test

2002-01-16 Thread Steve McIntyre

I've made images for 2.2r5 on cdimage. The old r4 images are still
around for now, but chmod'ed so they're not accessible. After the fun
Phil had last time with the sparc and ppc images, I'm not taking any
chances. I've copied the debian-cd directory he used last time and
updated it, so hopefully it should all work.

Please test them (especially ppc and sparc) and let me know; I'll
release them properly and put the 2.2r5 links in place once we have
confirmation they work. As Phil said last time:

They will be moved to the normal place once I get a few reports that
they look OK, but please don't assume that they are the release
version (and get thousands of them pressed, say) until that happens,
and the MD5SUMS files have been GPG signed by me.

Note that the images have the potato*.raw style names at present, so
take appropriate measures to make sure they get rsync-ed over your
current images, by perhaps renaming yours, or specifying both from &
  to names to rsync.

If you're not sure what I'm on about, you're probably better off
  waiting until they are released.

I don't understand - there are three links on
, and on each of those pages you
can download .iso files:

  http://people.debian.org/~ieure/netinst/
  http://www-users.cs.umn.edu/~sdier/debian/woody-netinst-test/
  http://markybob.sourceforge.net/elf/

I must say I haven't tried them out myself, but apparently other
people have successfully used them.

Cheers,

Richard (maintainer of the www.debian.org/CD/ pages)

Sorry for the cross-posting, I just thought I'd add my $0.02...

I can personally attest to the fact that Ian Eure's netinst 3.0 disk
worked wonders, at least for me. It has several different kernel images
on it, including one that made installing ReiserFS a snap. I believe
they all use a 2.2.20 kernel. Also, he has a list of various
motherboards that support that El Torito multiple-boot scheme. Even if
yours doesn't, it "should" default to the vanilla image. It's worth a
shot -- the DL is only 35 megs.

I don't know the context of the original question, since I'm not
subscribed to debian-cd, but even the plain old "floppy" method is able
to do an install off the net easily, at least if you've got a
cablemodem. As for installing via PPP, I haven't heard any success
stories.

2.2r5 again

2002-01-16 Thread Alex King

A couple of days ago, I built the 2.2r4 iso images using the PIK.

As there is talk of an official 2.2r5 iso, and I haven't burnt my
disks yet, I am waiting for for these images to show up.

However, now when I go to look for the new lists files, I can't even
find the old r4 ones. The PIK tells me to go to:

http://www.uk.debian.org/debian-cd/cd-images

for the list files, but there are three direcories here:

old: I get a 403 permission denied
potato_test: (has only r0???)
potato_update: I don't understand

There used to be a cd-images directory from memory, which I guess is
now in old.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what is happening with the cds?

Alex
