I can't reproduce it here, on my ppc with a just updated pbuilder. The
arch used, version of gcc and the build toolchain would be useful.

Ugly workaround: compile with -O2 instead of -O3 (works for me).

Do you mean you get the same test failures as in the log you link to,
or another error?

I'm trying to reproduce the problem with upstream sources but I hit
another build failure (undefined reference to `__gmpn_umul_ppmm')
which I've reported upstream. I'm not quite sure why we don't hit it
in the debian builds as well.

Laurent.

That's because the private symbol name changed from 4.2 to 4.2.1 and
we're still building against 4.2 in debian.

Bug#338087: mpfr_2.2.0.dfsg.1-2_m68k: FTBFS: 2 of 117 tests failed

2005-11-27 Thread Laurent Fousse

thanks

This seems to be another case of toolchain brokenness on m68k. I have
some hope that some version of gcc with -O0 might be able to compile
it correctly and I'll use that as workaround after testing on crest.

It would be nice however if someone who has access to such hardware
could investigate the bug at this point, and/or give upstream an
account on such a machine. As m68k is not expected to keep up for etch
I'll downgrade the bug severity to non-RC after some day of
inactivity.

Cheers,

Laurent.

http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?&pkg=mpfr&ver=2.2.0.dfsg.1-3&arch=m68k&stamp=1133892937&file=log&as=raw
mpfr still fails to build from source on m68k. Which is odd, because I
remember the combination of gcc-3.4 and -O0 to result in a succesful
manual build in crest's unstable chroot. So, downgraded to non-RC as
m68k is apparently still ignorable for release purposes.

Thanks for investigating. I think MPFR's upstream was aware of the
__gmp_rand problem, but without a debian package of gmp at that time I
didn't think of the implication on the debian package. I'll first see
if upstream can drop the dependancy on the symbol, and upload a fix in
the coming week.

Bug#363287: mpfr: FTBFS on s390, illegal instruction in umul_ppmm

2006-04-18 Thread Laurent Fousse
Package: mpfr
Severity: serious
Justification: no longer builds from source

Hello,

MPFR no longer build from source on s390. A complete build log can be
found at :

http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?&pkg=mpfr&ver=2.2.0.dfsg.1-5&arch=s390&stamp=1145312906&file=log&as=raw

I verified with the unmodified source for GMP and MPFR that it is not
related to the debian packaging.

The `Illegal instruction' or segfault errors occur in umul_ppmm
according to gdb (verified on tconst_catalan, tcheck and tmul). I
found the following changelog entry, maybe related :

2005-03-22 Patrick Pelissier <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
[...]
* mul.c: Fix bug on HP-UX.
longlong's umul_ppmm seems to be buggy on such a system.
Don't use it under HP-UX.

I'll try to find a testcase for umul_ppmm to see if we can forward this
problem to GMP.

The MPFR documentation is provided as texinfo source file licensed
under the GFDL version 1.1 "or any later version".

Since there is only a limited number of useful rephrasing of this
technical documentation, I consider an attempt to rewrite it a
complete waste of time and I won't be doing it.

Upstream might consider the option of a relicensing, the problem being
that the copyright was assigned to the FSF. If you know how to deal
with such a situation, please reply.

My short time plan is to obliterate the documentation from the source
tarball.

#289417 and #280588 are not going to happen because last time I
checked, nobody was volunteer to continue maintaining cabot
_upstream-wise_. Considering the fact that cabot was never part of
testing *and* that a significant part of upstream thinks something
along the line of "Oh well, caff is part of the signing-party package
and is good enough/better than cabot anyway so why bother" so my
opinion is that letting cabot in etch as-is is a bad idea.

cabot needs someone that's interested in upstream development before
we let it go in etch. Merely adopting the debian package is not enough
for our users.

Laurent.

IIRC, it failed in greylistd.postinst right after:

. /usr/share/debconf/confmodule

so it's likely not a bug in greylistd, but somewhere between debconf
and/or ash. It looks a lot like #242011.

Thanks for clarirying. Due to a lack of knowledge/use of debconf, I
thought the piece of shell script that triggered the bug was part of
debconf itself. Sorry for the confusion.

Bug#317451: sympa: can't install : frontend goes wild

2005-07-08 Thread Laurent Fousse
Package: sympa
Version: 4.1.5-3
Severity: grave

Hi,

I tried to install sympa but my terminal is stuck in the ncurses
frontend. It seems to keep refreshing the terminal, thus an unpleasant
stroboscopic black/blue effect. The `frontend' processus is eating
half the CPU (launched from sympa.postinst) and needs to be killed
from another shell.

Severity "grave" because I can't install the package.

Cheers,

Laurent.

Thanks for the backtrace. Every `fopen' call I see in the code is
followed by conditionals checking for errors. I think the memory
situation is broken someplace else.

Yup, I missed the mail. Thanks Niko for Cc'ing me. And for the patch,
of course.

I don't have my GPG key at work, so it will have to wait for this
evening. If you have a package ready go ahead.

The reason I orphaned megahal is because I read its code too much for
my own good recently. If it weren't for users I'd suggest removal :-)

Over the time megahal has acquired a number of extension I seldom, if
ever, used. It would be best if megahal was team-maintained by people
who actually care about a Tcl, Python, and Perl module (and are
willing to cope with the C codebase too).

I've more or less given up. Markovian models are not hard to code
properly, and I've just done that for a spam filter I consider
including in debian. Writing a megahal replacement from that is just a
matter of providing python bindings.

Regards,

Laurent.

It was in response to a private request by doko, for gcc-snapshot.
Maybe I misunderstood and experimental would have been good enough. In
any case, it's my fault for uploading not-quite-good-enough packages
to unstable.

Upstream is back from a scientific conference and focusing on the
release again. I can upload a 2.3.0~rc1.dfsg.1-2 version, with fixes
for the known regressions which caused me to file #433773 (these fixes
are already present in upstream's svn), or wait approximately two
weeks for 2.3.0 final. Which solution makes most sense, from a release
point of view?

I'm running megahal just fine here.

Do you have a ~/.megahal directory from a previous version? If so, try

Thanks for reproducing this bug. Unfortunately the backtrack doesn't
give much information. I'll try to figure out what's going on from the

Bug#476987: exim4-daemon-light: fails to install: incompatible command-line options or arguments

2008-04-20 Thread Laurent Fousse
Package: exim4-daemon-light
Version: 4.69-2+b1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to install

Hello,

I get the following installation error:

Setting up exim4-daemon-light (4.69-2+b1) ...
Starting MTA:exim: incompatible command-line options or arguments
invoke-rc.d: initscript exim4, action "start" failed.

subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Looking at `EX4DEBUG=1 /etc/init.d/exim4 restart`, exim is run with
arguments "-bd -q30m '' '' ''". The three empty strings seem to
confuse exim.

Regards,

Laurent.

I kind of hoped to have the build failure fixed on sparc... I'll see
how to upload to t-p-u.

Bug#593193: gmp-ecm: FTBFS on sparc: Assertion failed during tests

Thank you for the report. I can reproduce it on smetana.d.o in the sid
chroot, using the default compiler (gcc-4.4.5), pristine upstream source
compiled with

./configure CFLAGS="-O0 -ggdb" && make && make check

However, the package builds fine using gcc-4.3 so it could be a
compiler issue. I'll look into it next week, but help would be
appreciated. The problematic C file is pm1fs2.c according to the abort
message, and comparison of the assembly files for each compiler does
not help me (I don't grok sparc assembly).

You're right. I should have made a more systematic testing, I merely
tested the r-depends I knew about (talked with Matthias Klose for gcc,
mpfi and mpclib I can take care of). I'll do better next time...

The only incompatible change with the previous version is the removal
of mpfr_random, a function that's labelled "deprecated" for about
seven years. So, let's try to fix what I broke in apron.

After removing the reference to `mpfr_random' in
mlgmpidl/gmp_random.idl then "make clean && make rebuild" apron fails
on "GMP_RND_MAX". The proper fix is not to rely on such an
undocumented feature, but to test against each possible rounding mode
in the assert.

I'll try to provide a patch monday for apron.

Regards,

Laurent.

My plan is to have src:mpfr4 replace src:mpfr (and remove src:mpfr)
when mpfr4 has entered testing.

I can change the name of the ecm binary and manpage in my package if
needed, but it seems to me it would be better for the users if the
"ecm" package changed the names of the binary/manpage, for the
following reasons:

(1) gmp-ecm has used this name longer,
(2) gmp-ecm has more users according to popcon (not quite fair
because of (1)).

Thanks for the bugreport. The latest upstream version doesn't have
that bug, but the commit where it was fixed did not intentionally fix
it, I think. Uploading the latest version should resolve the FTBFS in
the meantime (ETA: next week), but maybe there's more to it.

Thanks for clearing that up! I guess the only thing left for me to do here
is package 6.4.4.

Bug#644552: FTBFS: 19 of 160 tests failed (on sparc)

2011-10-06 Thread Laurent Fousse
Package: mpfr4
Version: 3.1.0-1
Severity: serious
Justification: fails to build from source

The package failed to build on sparc:

https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=mpfr4&arch=sparc&ver=3.1.0-1&stamp=1317713686

This is reproducible with unmodified upstream sources, and a
workaround is to add "--disable-thread-safe" to the configure line (I
don't find that satisfactory).

It would be interesting to see if the bug goes away when mpfr is
rebuilt against the newest gmp package.

I will look into it this evening, but feel free to beat me to it.

I can't reproduce Marc's testcase on my sid lxc. And I notice that
brahms could successfully build ufraw (one significant change with the
failed build log: gcc changed from 4:4.6.3-5 to 4:4.7.0-6).

Bug#627382: xscreensaver: Fails to lock screen

2011-05-20 Thread Laurent Fousse
Package: xscreensaver
Version: 5.13-1
Severity: grave
Tags: security
Justification: user security hole

Hello,

Steps to reproduce:

1) launch xscreensaver
2) launch "xscreensaver-command -lock" in another terminal.
3) The screen starts to turn blank, but returns to normal again
   immediately after turning fully blank.

At this point xscreensaver has exited with the following message:

##

xscreensaver: 11:05:19: X Error! PLEASE REPORT THIS BUG.
xscreensaver: 11:05:19: screen 0/0: 0xaf, 0x0, 0x1a1

Current serial number in output stream: 656

###

If at all possible, please re-run xscreensaver with the command
line arguments `-sync -verbose -log log.txt', and reproduce this
bug. That will cause xscreensaver to dump a `core' file to the
current directory. Please include the stack trace from that core
file in your bug report. *DO NOT* mail the core file itself! That
won't work. A "log.txt" file will also be written. Please *do*
include the complete "log.txt" file with your bug report.

http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/bugs.html explains how to create
the most useful bug reports, and how to examine core files.

The more information you can provide, the better. But please
report this bug, regardless!

###

When I try to reproduce the problem with "xscreensaver -sync -verbose -log
log.txt",
the screensaver does not exit but is stuck at 100% CPU and not
responding.

It seems they have the same problem in Fedora:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=703483
