Bug#500317: mimetic: FTBFS on amd64: old libtool version

2008-09-27 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: mimetic
Version: 0.9.4-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

Your package is failing to build on amd64 with the following error:
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.3.2/../../../../lib/crti.o: In function
`_init':/tmp/glibc-2.7/build-tree/amd64-libc/csu/crti.S:25: multiple definition

[...]

The problem seems to be that you're using libtool version 1.5(.0), which
is rather old and is known to have problems with the amd64 (and other)
ports. Updating to the version 1.5.26 solves it for me.

Hi,

Thanks for catching this.

A fixed package should be on its way to the archive right now,
seccure 0.3-3, I would appreciate you verifying that it works
for you as soon as possible.

Apologies for not getting this right the first time around.

Thanks,

James

Package: webkit
Severity: grave
Tags: security, patch
Justification: user security hole

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) ids were
published for webkit.

CVE-2008-3950[0]:
| Off-by-one error in the
| _web_drawInRect:withFont:ellipsis:alignment:measureOnly function in
| WebKit in Safari in Apple iPhone 1.1.4 and 2.0 and iPod touch 1.1.4
| and 2.0 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (browser
| crash) via a JavaScript alert call with an argument that lacks
| breakable characters and has a length that is a multiple of the memory
| page size, leading to an out-of-bounds read.

CVE-2008-3632[1]:
| Use-after-free vulnerability in WebKit in Apple iPod touch 1.1 through
| 2.0.2, and iPhone 1.0 through 2.0.2, allows remote attackers to
| execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (application
| crash) via a web page with crafted Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) import
| statements.

If you fix the vulnerabilities please also make sure to include the
CVE ids in your changelog entry.

Please don't get confused by the very Apple-centric descriptions, it affects
webkit.
A fix for CVE-2008-3632 can be found here[2]. I am not sure about CVE-2008-3950
and it
might not affect the webkit package (I couldn't even find the function
mentioned), but I
thought I'd mention it as well, in case you have more information.

Please also note that webkit has a security mailinglist and it might be
possible for you
as the debian maintainer to get subscribed, so I'd suggest you ask them and
give it a try. :)
Some information about webkit procedures can be found here[3].

Cheers
Steffen

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id was
published for phpbb2.

CVE-2008-4125[0]:
| The search function in phpBB 2.x provides a search_id value that
| leaks the state of PHP's PRNG, which allows remote attackers to
| obtain potentially sensitive information, as demonstrated by a
| cross-application attack against WordPress, a different
| vulnerability than CVE-2006-0632.

This can create security issues in other web applications that run on
the same server.

This issue could also be fixed by modifying php. According to the
announcement, this will be done in the next release of suhosin, but I
am not sure that this will be in time for lenny.

Please also check phpbb3.

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the
CVE id in your changelog entry.

It seems you have a mix of things you want to build shared and static,
but that doesn't work. If you want to make a shared library, all
objects that end up in it need to be build for a shared library.
libtool will add the -fPIC when building a shared library.

I see this has gone without an answer for an unfortunate amount of time,
and for that I'm sorry.

I have never been convinced by the arguments about indirect linking,
myself, but I'm not sure that this bug report is the right forum to
rehash all the arguments we probably both know very well. For what it's
worth, I've spoken with ftp-master in the past and gotten an explicit go
ahead for this sort of thing (specifically, to build the postgres module
for freeradius, which has a similar problem).

I am going to downgrade the bug for now, but not close it, until I speak
with ftp-master again.

Cheers,

So I'm reassigning and closing it in that case. Someone should contact
the buildd admins to reschedule the package in that case.

Bug#500323: slune: Slune does not start

2008-09-27 Thread Marc Dequènes (Duck)

severity 500323 important
thanks

Coin,

Quoting "Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pen~a" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

Slune does not work for me at all, it gives out and error which does
not look like any of the other reported errors:

Seems you card does not handle the default game resolution. I'm Cc-ing
Vincent Bernat which is taking over this package, and might be able to
patch the game by himself (as i don't think waiting for author's fixes
would be the right strategy).

I agree Slune is does not handling problems properly, and it really
should be solved, but playing a 3D game without glx support (#393274),
a working sound system (#494576), or with a broken X configuration
(#500324), is quite weirdo. As it is not a very important package, and
as it is working for many people, i don't think having it RC would
help at all. In fact, thus near to the release, this would end up
having it removed from Lenny, and as the bug surely resides in soya,
would kick soya and all other soya rdepends out of Lenny too. I'd
rather like to avoid this situation, so i'm downgrading the severity.

Regards.

Package: grub
Version: 0.97-47
Severity: grave

update-grub adds 2.6.26-1-686-bigmem with a Xen hypervisor to the grub

grub-probe fails if /dev does not contain a sign of the current root.

Bug#500358: mach64 stopped working on the Sun Ultra 5 graphics card after upgrade

2008-09-27 Thread Josip Rodin
Package: xserver-xorg-video-mach64
Version: 6.8.0-1
Severity: grave

Hi,

With an older kernel, the old version of this driver worked fine.
After a kernel upgrade, it stopped working, with a couple of error
messages screaming something about memory allocation.

Hearing something about how I have to upgrade Xorg driver to match, I did
that, got this package from lenny, and tried again, but it didn't work,
either :( This time it "just" warns about memory allocation, but still
fails to actually load X properly.

I'm attaching /var/log/Xorg.0.log from the machine.

If you need any more information, please feel free to ask. TIA.

Unfortunately that won't help either, because apparently lenny only
has 1.4.2. 1.5.x is still in experimental. I've just happened to file
an RC bug on xserver-xorg-video-mach64 because of this, Cc:ed now.

Bug#500360: gossip: Network traffic is incredibly high due to constant vcard requests / 100% cpu usage

2008-09-27 Thread Admar Schoonen
Package: gossip
Version: 1:0.30-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

There are two problems with this package; I'm not sure if they are related.

First is very large network traffic. This is a known bug and already fixed in
1:0.31-1, see also http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=545451

Second problem is that occasionally, gossip uses 100% cpu and is unresponsive.
On my system, this occurs about 30 minutes after starting the package and lasts
for about one minute; after that, gossip is suddenly idle and behaves as normal
again. I'm not sure if this is a known bug (or if it is related to the network
traffic issue), but it seems to be fixed in 1:0.31-1 from unstable as well.

Marked this bug as Grave / Renders package unusable, since the admin of the
jabber server ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) told me that if all users of his server would
use
this package, the server would die due to the amount of traffic. Would be nice
if 1:0.31-1 could make it into testing before the next release.

Oh, and we already have one in 488669, but it's filed against the core
X server package. I'll leave it to the X guys to decide where to merge.
In any case it's a clear regression from etch. :(

Feel free to provide a patch, or revert the kernel changes that broke X.
The X guys are not sparc porters, don't have access to sparc hardware,
and the affected code is very much arch-specific.

2008-09-27 Thread Daniel Baumann
Hi,

linux-uvc has been incorporated into 2.6.26 mainline, there's no need
for linux-uvc-source anymore, and that's why it has been removed,
therefore closing this bug.

Regards,

Bug#500381: vim: CVE-2008-4101 Vim 3.0 through 7.x before 7.2.010 does not properly escape ...

2008-09-27 Thread Thomas Bläsing
Source: vim
Version: 7.2.000-3
Severity: grave
Tags: security patch

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) id was
published for vim.

CVE-2008-4101[0]:
| Vim 3.0 through 7.x before 7.2.010 does not properly escape
| characters, which allows user-assisted attackers to (1) execute
| arbitrary shell commands by entering a K keystroke on a line that
| contains a ";" (semicolon) followed by a command, or execute arbitrary
| Ex commands by entering an argument after a (2) "Ctrl-]" (control
| close-square-bracket) or (3) "g]" (g close-square-bracket) keystroke

lfhex fails to build when qt3-dev-tools is installed because it then

Hi!

vsftpd doesn't have a depends on update-inetd but uses it directly in
its postinst without checking wether the program is available.
update-inetd is priority important but that doesn't mean it's required
to be installed on all systems.

 So long,
Rhonda

As we want to release without db4.3 it would be great if dsniff works
with db version 4.6 (the default version in lenny).

Cheers

Hi there,

vsftpd.postinst fails here because update-inetd cannot be found:
 Setting up vsftpd (2.0.6-1) ...
 /var/lib/dpkg/info/vsftpd.postinst: line 19: update-inetd: command not found

update-inetd is not installed on my machine (xinted is installed instead of
inetd). Maybe postinst should fail silently or output a message that xinetd
configuration needs to be updated manually in that case.

Cheers,
Andreas

This is transitory. Once gtksourceview2 2.4.0-1 is built on amd64, this problem
will go away.

It does not need that in any way if the file is already there and
records a proper root on its own.

This is intentional. update-grub needs to identify the current root in order
to construct grub.cfg / menu.lst. fstab was not reliable, so it's no longer
being used.

Though, we should probably avoid silencing this particular invocation of
grub-probe.

>It seems you have a mix of things you want to build shared and static,

It looks to me like the package builds a static library and then tries
to use that static library to form part of a shared library.
Unfortunately that static library is not getting built PIC

Since afaict no static libraries are included in the package the easiest
soloution seems to be to force the entire package to be built with -fPIC .

to do this replace the following line in debian/rules

CFLAGS = -Wall -g

with

CFLAGS = -Wall -g -fPIC
CXXFLAGS += -fPIC

Bug#500415: viruskiller: crashes at startup

2008-09-27 Thread Ansgar Burchardt
Running viruskiller with debug symbols show the crash is in the audio
code:

(gdb) bt
#0 0x087e6595 in ?? ()
#1 0xb7f16c76 in SDL_ReadLE32 () from /usr/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0

#5 0x08054d15 in main (argc=1, argv=0xbfdf1e54) at src/main.cpp:80

Starting viruskiller with the `-nosound' option makes the game playable
again, so the crash is probably caused by the removal of the non-free
audio files.

I'll try to create a patch in the next days, too late today already.
