Bug#477134: librrds-perl: RRDs perl module fails to use with locales using different decimal separator
Package: librrds-perl Version: 1.2.27-2 Severity: grave Tags: l10n Justification: renders package unusable RRDs perl module fails to use if locales set a decimal separator different to '.'. In this case, the Spanish locales (es_ES.UTF-8) use ',' as a decimal separator. DynLoader seems to compare on the left-hand side using a decimal point, and on the right-hand side using the coma. I believe it is not "forbidden" for non-maintainers to reassign packages. And you might be right in this case. Not all package maintainers treat bugreports and bugreporters equally nice, however, so reassigning a bugreport raise the risk of not being treated nicely. Also, the act of reassigning can itself be seen as provocation to some package maintainers. Therefore I recommend to be extra cautious and only reasssing if certain that the bug can only be tied to the new package (neither tied to the old package nor to multiple bugs needing a fork of the bugreport). So when you only _might_ be right, it was sane to not do it :-) >> you snipped all the interesting part of that bug report! please >> reread start and subject before radomly reassigning! > >I have read those. And I also read the part about unpacking it and >looking at busybox. I may be wrong, but yaird AFAIK does not include >busybox in the initrd. Also I wasn't aware of the possibility to use >yaird with update-initramfs. With yaird you _can_ include busybox in the ramdisk. You are right that it is not the default behaviour, but the bugreporter mentioned busybox while _debugging_ the problem, not as part of the core problem itself. It is not uncommon to get confused with the actual steps involved in handling initial ramdisks. Indeed, update-initramfs is not used with yaird, but this only is an indication that initramfs-tools is installed on the system, not that it is the generator actually used on that system to generate ramdisks. Even then, I do find it sane to consider initramfs-tools being involved in this bug. But package maintainers of yaird and initramfs-tools do not treat bugreports and bugreporters equally, which migh confuse (or worse) our bugreporter. So please let us treat this bug as yaird-related only, until certain that it is not! To be sure, I zapped all my ramdisks, and then re-created them from inside a chroot into my normal system, from the debian rescue cd. The same problem remains The initrds were all generated using update-initramfs That command is part of an alternative ramdisk generator, initramfs-tools. OK, looks like I might be confused. I'll re-run dpkg-reconfigure on the kernel tonight, and check it really is using yaird as I thought it was. (I've tried several different things...) One of the problem initrds can be downloaded from http://urchin.earth.li/~nick/initrd-2.6.24-1-686 That address did not work for me. Please doublecheck if it is correct. I notice that you are running a 486 class kernel, which might indicate that your machine does not support 686-optimizations. The above mentioned directory is provided by libc6-686, only relevant for 686-capable machines. If you generate your yaird-based ramdisks on a 686-capable machine, then those optimized libraries will get included in the ramdisk instead of their non-686 counterparts. If you then use those ramdisks in a machine not supporting 686, your ramdisk will not work. Try regenerate your ramdisks on the machine you actually need them. If that does not help, then try remove libc6-686, and afterwards regenerate your ramdisks. In any case, please report back here what worked and what didn't. >The initrds were all generated using update-initramfs That command is part of an alternative ramdisk generator, initramfs-tools. When you use yaird together with official Debian-packaged Linux kernels or kernels built using kernel-package, then please use the standard Debian mechanism to regenerate ramdisks: dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-2.6.24-1-amd64 (repeat for each kernel package you have installed) If you use custom compiled and custom (or non-) packaged Linux kernels, you need to use the yaird command directly. Bug#476573: preinst fails on etch->sid dist-upgrade with old unopkg
2008/4/17 Rene Engelhard <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > Unfortunately I didn't think about/notice this either, but a etch->sid > dist-upgrade with openoffice.org-voikko involved now fails with the > scriplets using -env. Yes, that's unfortunately true. > Option 2 > > Policy 7.2 says you need a Pre-Depends for such cases... I tried around with this last night for various rounds, and settled now for this: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/o/openoffice.org-voikko/openoffice.org-voikko_2.2-3.dsc debdiff attached. I'm not sure if both -common (unopkg) and -core (unopkg.bin) pre-dependencies are really needed, but I added them while trying to find out the problems I had. The problem I was having was that since the old voikko is removed before the new one is installed, the new preinst is called with install instead of upgrade. So I decided to remove the old voikko extensions also when preinst is called with install, since postinst anyway installs the new voikko again. One possible problematic situation with more than one old voikko extensions was also resolved. There is a remaining concern that since the old openoffice.org-core is removed before the old openoffice.org-voikko, the old extension is not removed by the old OOo. However, the new unopkg seems to do a fine job removing the old extension, too, unlike maybe some time ago when OOo was a bit more shaky about these things. So, currently with this version I'm successfully having etch -> lenny upgrades (or, lenny + my local ooo-voikko repo with this version). The new unopkg is usable at the time ooo-voikko's preins tis called, old voikko version is removed and new one is installed. The extension works, as does extensions dialog in OOo (the dialog didn't start when the old voikko wasn't removed properly). Pre-Depends should be used sparingly, but it would seem like a good fit here. -Timo ps. dunno if gmail keeps X-Debbugs-Cc or not diff -u openoffice.org-voikko-2.2/debian/copyright openoffice.org-voikko-2.2/debian/copyright --- openoffice.org-voikko-2.2/debian/copyright +++ openoffice.org-voikko-2.2/debian/copyright @@ -4,13 +4,15 @@ It was downloaded from - http://downloads.sourceforge.net/voikko/openoffice.org-voikko-2.1.tar.gz + http://downloads.sourceforge.net/voikko/openoffice.org-voikko-2.2.tar.gz Upstream author: Harri Pitkänen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> The Debian packaging is (C) 2006, Harri Pitkänen, Teemu Likonen and Timo Jyrinki and is licensed under the GNU General Public License. +Copyright (C) 2005-2008 Harri Pitkänen ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) + This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modify it under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published by the Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or diff -u openoffice.org-voikko-2.2/debian/control openoffice.org-voikko-2.2/debian/control --- openoffice.org-voikko-2.2/debian/control +++ openoffice.org-voikko-2.2/debian/control @@ -8,6 +8,7 @@ Package: openoffice.org-voikko Architecture: any +Pre-Depends: openoffice.org-common (>= 1:2.3.0~oog680m1-1), openoffice.org-core (>= 1:2.3.0~oog680m1-1) Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}, ${misc:Depends} Recommends: openoffice.org (>= 1:2.4.0~) | openoffice.org-writer (>= 1:2.4.0~) | openoffice.org-calc (>= 1:2.4.0~) | openoffice.org-impress (>= 1:2.4.0~) | openoffice.org-draw (>= 1:2.4.0~) Conflicts: ${misc:Conflicts} diff -u openoffice.org-voikko-2.2/debian/preinst openoffice.org-voikko-2.2/debian/preinst --- openoffice.org-voikko-2.2/debian/preinst +++ openoffice.org-voikko-2.2/debian/preinst @@ -21,9 +21,13 @@ } case "$1" in - upgrade) - id=`/usr/lib/openoffice/program/unopkg list --shared | egrep '^(Name|Identifier):.*voikko' | cut -d":" -f2` - remove_extension $id + upgrade|install) + echo Removing old voikko extensions. + id=" " + while [ "$id" != "" ]; do + id=`/usr/lib/openoffice/program/unopkg list --shared | egrep '^(Name|Identifier):.*voikko' | cut -d":" -f2 | head -n 1` + if [ "$id" != "" ]; then remove_extension $id; fi + done ;; esac diff -u openoffice.org-voikko-2.2/debian/changelog openoffice.org-voikko-2.2/debian/changelog --- openoffice.org-voikko-2.2/debian/changelog +++ openoffice.org-voikko-2.2/debian/changelog @@ -1,3 +1,11 @@ +openoffice.org-voikko (2.2-3) unstable; urgency=low + + * Add Pre-Depends for etch -> lenny upgrades (Closes: #476573) + * Modify preinst to remove also multiple previous voikko extensions + * Fix lintian warning about debian/copyright phrasing + + -- Timo Jyrinki <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Mon, 21 Apr 2008 00:26:02 +0300 + openoffice.org-voikko (2.2-2) unstable; urgency=low * Synchronize with upstream packaging:

If you intend to use yaird, then make sure yaird is enabled in /etc/kernel-img.conf as described in /usr/share/doc/yaird/README.Debian, and dpkg-reconfigure your kernel packages. If you have no special interest in yaird, then probably you don't even use it any longer, and you should be able so safely remove that package. Yaird was the default ramdisk generator at some point in the past. Now the default is initramfs-tools. The package maintainer of initramfs-tools claim yaird to be fundamentally broken. I disagree, and use yaird for most if not all of my laptops, workstations and servers. If no new information comes up, I will close this bugreport as unpreproducible. You clearly hit a bug somewhere, and most likely it was a bug in some Debian package. I just don't believe it to be in the yaird package, and since the package maintainer of initramfs-tools is actively tracking bugs here in yaird but is not interested in adopting bugs "contaminated" by mentioning yaird, I suspect it is easier to file a new bugreport against initramfs-tools than poking more here. Max: If you reconsider, you are of course free to reassign this bugreport to initramfs-tools. Please contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] immediately.) -- 457828: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=457828 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] with problems --- Begin Message --- Package: chkrootkit Version: 0.47-1.1 Severity: critical Justification: breaks unrelated software In testing for the Enye LKM, chkrootkit sends signal 58 to PID 12345. This has a chance of hitting any one process of 1/32767. On the system I am typing this on in its current state, I have 350 processes running, and it is not currently busy, so that's 1/100 chance of hitting a process by random. If the system is up for a while, and I run chkrootkit in a daily cronjob, I can expect a random process to be sent signal 58 once every 100 days or so. The other day, it killed gnuplot_x11, which I only noticed once I read my mail saying chkrootkit had "Enye LKM found". It certainly explained why a script of mine got confused, and I could tell it had killed gnuplot_x11 because it was still in a zombie state, having not yet been reaped by gnuplot, and it was running as pid 12345. There are reports on the net of it killing other processes. That signal number is not documented in 'man 7 signal', so I guess it's not likely anything would install a signal handler than could deal with 58. Presumably chkrootkit is hoping that signal would be rejected by the kernel as invalid, but that assumption is invalid today: $ sleep 1000 & [1] 19277 $ kill -58 19277 [1]+ Real-time signal 24 sleep 1000 $ Incidentally, the documentation of the tests in chkproc.c needs a lot of work: 'man 2 kill' doesn't describe kill as ever being able to return a positive error value, but of course it must, because I got the "Enye LKM found" message. It took me a while to work out that that code was trying to do anything other than detect for the presence of pid 12345. Perhaps the signals it is sending could be better documented, as to the test for the error return value, and indeed the prevous test for the Adobe LKM, using an errno magic number instead of symbolic name. And why it sends signal 100 to init first without testing the result. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.23 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_AU, LC_CTYPE=en_AU (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages chkrootkit depends on: ii binutils2.18.1~cvs20071027-2 The GNU assembler, linker and bina ii debconf [debconf-2. 1.5.17 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.7-5GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii net-tools 1.60-19 The NET-3 networking toolkit ii procps 1:3.2.7-5/proc file system utilities chkrootkit recommends no packages. -- debconf information: chkrootkit/run_daily: false chkrootkit/run_daily_opts: -q chkrootkit/diff_mode: false --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: chkrootkit Source-Version: 0.48-2 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of chkrootkit, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: chkrootkit_0.48-2.diff.gz to pool/main/c/chkrootkit/chkrootkit_0.48-2.diff.gz chkrootkit_0.48-2.dsc to pool/main/c/chkrootkit/chkrootkit_0.48-2.dsc chkrootkit_0.48-2_amd64.deb to pool/main/c/chkrootkit/chkrootkit_0.48-2_amd64.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Perhaps these invocation should use the -f option to force removal. - -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (100, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-3-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages hplip depends on: ii adduser 3.105add and remove users and groups ii coreutils 5.97-5.6 The GNU core utilities ii cupsys 1.3.4-2 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii hplip-data 2.7.10-4 HP Linux Printing and Imaging - da ii libc6 2.7-3GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcupsys2 1.3.4-2 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii libjpeg62 6b-14The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libsane 1.0.19~cvs20071028-1 API library for scanners ii libsnmp15 5.4.1~dfsg-4 SNMP (Simple Network Management Pr ii libssl0.9.8 0.9.8g-3 SSL shared libraries ii libusb-0.1-42:0.1.12-8 userspace USB programming library ii lsb-base3.1-24 Linux Standard Base 3.1 init scrip ii python 2.4.4-6 An interactive high-level object-o ii python-support 0.7.5automated rebuilding support for p Versions of packages hplip recommends: ii cupsys-client 1.3.4-1 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii hpijs 2.7.10+2.7.10-4 HP Linux Printing and Imaging - gs ii hpijs-ppds 2.6.10+1.6.10-4.3 HP Linux Printing and Imaging - HP ii hplip-gui 2.7.10-4 HP Linux Printing and Imaging - GU pn openprinting-ppds (no description available) ii python-reportlab 2.0dfsg-1 ReportLab library to create PDF do - -- no debconf information -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFHY0MA79ZNCRIGYgcRAifFAKCRA40x4LS4WIlI7494hduqBEBnKgCfUbaV bx0x7tHrHOik5PW1NVIx9Ss= =RU6Q -END PGP SIGNATURE- --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: hplip Source-Version: 2.8.2-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of hplip, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: hpijs-ppds_2.8.2+2.8.2-1_all.deb to pool/main/h/hplip/hpijs-ppds_2.8.2+2.8.2-1_all.deb hpijs_2.8.2+2.8.2-1_powerpc.deb to pool/main/h/hplip/hpijs_2.8.2+2.8.2-1_powerpc.deb hplip-data_2.8.2-1_all.deb to pool/main/h/hplip/hplip-data_2.8.2-1_all.deb hplip-dbg_2.8.2-1_powerpc.deb to pool/main/h/hplip/hplip-dbg_2.8.2-1_powerpc.deb hplip-doc_2.8.2-1_all.deb to pool/main/h/hplip/hplip-doc_2.8.2-1_all.deb hplip-gui_2.8.2-1_all.deb to pool/main/h/hplip/hplip-gui_2.8.2-1_all.deb hplip_2.8.2-1.diff.gz to pool/main/h/hplip/hplip_2.8.2-1.diff.gz hplip_2.8.2-1.dsc to pool/main/h/hplip/hplip_2.8.2-1.dsc hplip_2.8.2-1_powerpc.deb to pool/main/h/hplip/hplip_2.8.2-1_powerpc.deb hplip_2.8.2.orig.tar.gz to pool/main/h/hplip/hplip_2.8.2.orig.tar.gz A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#476063: libgtkimreg: FTBFS: checking for C compiler default output... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
On Mon, 14 Apr 2008, Lucas Nussbaum wrote: The problem is very likely to be caused by dpkg 1.14.18 now setting default values for CFLAGS and some other variables (see dpkg-buildpackage(1)). It seems so. As I said it works in chroot and if I try to use debuild on my normal box. I reworked all the autotools stuff which did not helped. In the new configure file a failure occures at the posistion where I included the following debug line: --- configure.orig 2008-04-21 14:14:21.0 +0200 +++ configure 2008-04-21 15:51:26.0 +0200 @@ -3068,6 +3068,7 @@ *\"* | *\`* | *\\*) ac_try_echo=\$ac_try;; *) ac_try_echo=$ac_try;; esac +echo "DEBUG: `pwd` ; $PATH ; `which gtk-config `; `gtk-config --libs`" eval "echo \"\$as_me:$LINENO: $ac_try_echo\"") >&5 (eval "$ac_link_default") 2>&5 ac_status=$? What is the sense to override CFLAGS which above are obviosely "-O2 -s `gtk-config --libs`" by "" on the local machine? 2. What is the reason for the failure above gcc -O2 -s `gtk-config --libs` conftest.c should perfectly work because I verified that there is a working gtk-config and how comes this strange option "-flibs`" ??? I'm quite clueless. Any ideas? Kind regards Andreas. -- http://fam-tille.de -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#477181: awn-extras-applets: implicitly converted pointers
Package: awn-extras-applets Version: 0.2.6-1 Severity: serious Tags: patch Usertags: implicit-pointer-conversion Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64. Function `gnome_vfs_get_local_path_from_uri' implicitly converted to pointer at aff-start.c:204 Function `gnome_vfs_get_local_path_from_uri' implicitly converted to pointer at aff-utils.c:64 Function `g_fopen' implicitly converted to pointer at backend-gnome.c:535 Function `menu_new' implicitly converted to pointer at render.c:1020 Function `build_menu_widget' implicitly converted to pointer at config_entries.c:548 Function `g_fopen' implicitly converted to pointer at backend-gnome.c:535 Function `awn_applet_dialog_new' implicitly converted to pointer at applet.c:43 This is often due to a missing function prototype definition. For more information, see [2]. Though it is guaranteed that this codepath will cause a segfault on certain architectures, it is not guaranteed that this codepath would ever be executed (e.g., if the returned pointer is never dereferenced). However, this bug does prevent the ia64 buildd from successfully building this package, resulting in a practical FTBFS issue and warranting the serious severity. Bug#476789: [Debian-olpc-devel] Bug#476789: sugar: fails to find icon system-search
On Mon, Apr 21, 2008 at 1:51 AM, Jonas Smedegaard <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ... > Could you perhaps share some insight about how you went about? Any > tools or tricks I could use in future cases like this? Unfortunately, it was just dumb look. I had the idea that perhaps GTK needed a plugin to provide SVG support. So, I used apt-cache pkgnames and grepped for gtk.*svg|svg.*gtk but came up with nothing. Later that day, I installeed pychess -- for which I'm thinking about creating a sugar activity -- and noticed it depended on librsvg2-common: This package includes the gdk-pixbuf loader and a GTK+ engine, allowing to load SVG images transparently inside GTK+ applications. Like I said, dumb luck. Cheers, Shaun -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#477183: libhangul: hanja_list_get_nth_key implicitly converted to pointer
Package: libhangul Version: 0.0.8-1 Severity: serious Tags: patch Usertags: implicit-pointer-conversion Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64. Function `hanja_list_get_nth_key' implicitly converted to pointer at hanja.c:28 This is often due to a missing function prototype definition. Bug#476876: Bug #476876 : Additional information, still fails after upgrade to lenny/testing levels
As suggested in earlier response, I first did a full update of the Debian etch level system. A number of major components were replaced, but none were in the x11 area. The problem persisted as reported. This morning I installed xserver-xorg-video-s3 from lenny/testing by using aptitude to include all dependencies and recommended upgrades. This replaced tzdata, locale, libc6.1, xserver-xorg-core, and xserver-xorg-video-s3 with newer versions from the testing release level. The problem with the S3 Trio 32/64 card still persists as reported. Some slight improvements are evident, such as the fact that Xorg -configure now successfully finds the mouse where it did not do so in the past. (It's on /dev/psaux and is an ordinary PS/2 protocol mouse, so I don't know what the problem was with that.) In any case, running the new version of X still causes the screen to fill with random pixels in a static pattern, and locks or disables the keyboard and mouse. The only way to recover console control is by a reboot. Just hazarding a guess from the appearance of the pixels on the screen, there is a memory mapping or buffering error such that values are being loaded in some arrangement other than what the S3 chip expects (but admittedly, I'm far from expert at debugging video hardware issues.) Examination of /var/log/Xorg.0.log after a reboot shows at least a suggestion of a memory mapping error: Requesting insufficient memory window!: start: 0x9c0 end: 0x9cf size 0x80 (EE) Cannot find empty range to map base to (EE) s3(0): Cannot read V_BIOS (5) This occurs in spite of the fact that the correct video card RAM size and address have been deduced from a probe, and the correct BIOS location and size derived from PCI data. I am appending /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log to this message. Note that I also tried with a default depth of 8 bits, which produces a different pattern on the screen but still the same failure. If more specific information would help, please advise and I will do my best to provide it. --/etc/X11/xorg.conf follows--- Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "X.org Configured" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice"Mouse0" "CorePointer" InputDevice"Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection Section "Files" RgbPath "/etc/X11/rgb" ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi" FontPath "/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType" EndSection Section "Module" Load "record" Load "xtrap" Load "glx" Load "dri" Load "extmod" Load "dbe" Load "GLcore" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "PS/2" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Leading Edge (Daewoo)" ModelName "CMC-1414BA" HorizSync 30-64 VertRefresh 50-90 ModeLine "1024x768" 65 1024 1056 1208 1272 768 774 777 802 ModeLine "640x480" 28 640 656 752 792 480 490 492 519 ModeLine "800x600" 40 800 840 968 1056 600 601 605 628 EndSection Section "Device" ### Available Driver options are:- ### Values: : integer, : float, : "True"/"False", ### : "String", : " Hz/kHz/MHz" ### [arg]: arg optional #Option "noaccel" # [] #Option "swcursor" # [] #Option "slow_dram_refresh" # [] #Option "slow_dram" # [] #Option "slow_edodram" # [] #Option "slow_vram" # [] Identifier "Card0" Driver "s3" VendorName "S3 Inc."
