Bug#467486: Investigations about failure
gcc-4.2 and gcc-4.3 differ in the representation of char values: gcc-4.2 represents a char as a 32 bit value (bits 0..7 is the char value; bits 8..31 are always set to zero); gcc-4.3 uses only the lower 8 bits, ignoring bits 8..31. kaffe defines "typedef unsigned char jboolean;" in kaffe-1.1.8/libraries/javalib/external/classpath/include/jni_md-x86-linux-gnu.h but assumes %eax is 0/1 in compiled Java code. This makes compiled Java code calling into native C code almost always assume "true" for jboolean return values due to the non-zero "garbage" in bits 8..31. Compiling the following source demonstrates the issue: compiled with gcc-4.2, the return value in %eax always is either 0 or 1. Compiled with gcc-4.3, only %al is set ot 0 or 1; the remaining bits 8..31 of %eax remain unset. ~ >cat t.c unsigned char f(int x) { return x == 3; } ~ >gcc-4.2 -O3 -c -s t.c && objdump -d t.o t.o: file format elf32-i386 Disassembly of section .text: : 0: 55 push %ebp 1: 31 c0 xor%eax,%eax 3: 89 e5 mov%esp,%ebp 5: 83 7d 08 03 cmpl $0x3,0x8(%ebp) 9: 5d pop%ebp a: 0f 94 c0sete %al d: c3 ret ~ >gcc-4.3 -O3 -c -s t.c && objdump -d t.o t.o: file format elf32-i386 Disassembly of section .text: : 0: 55 push %ebp 1: 89 e5 mov%esp,%ebp 3: 83 7d 08 03 cmpl $0x3,0x8(%ebp) 7: 5d pop%ebp 8: 0f 94 c0sete %al b: c3 ret -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Hi! You don't need to take any action on the bug as I have reopened it. Hopefully, someone with enough experience with this kind of build instructions can fix this. It reports parse errors in standard headers, or fails with a bus error or seg-fault. This was masked for some time because the Puma library is shipped bootstrapped so it can be compiled with g++ and not ac++, and test suite failures are ignored. The Puma library now requires changes to compile on g++ 4.3, so the bootstrapped source cannot be used. - -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (100, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.24-1-686 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- Ben Hutchings Who are all these weirdos? - David Bowie, about L-Space IRC channel #afp signature.asc Description: Digital signature --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: aspectc++ Source-Version: 1.0pre4~svn.20080409+dfsg-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of aspectc++, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: aspectc++_1.0pre4~svn.20080409+dfsg-1.diff.gz to pool/main/a/aspectc++/aspectc++_1.0pre4~svn.20080409+dfsg-1.diff.gz aspectc++_1.0pre4~svn.20080409+dfsg-1.dsc to pool/main/a/aspectc++/aspectc++_1.0pre4~svn.20080409+dfsg-1.dsc aspectc++_1.0pre4~svn.20080409+dfsg-1_i386.deb to pool/main/a/aspectc++/aspectc++_1.0pre4~svn.20080409+dfsg-1_i386.deb aspectc++_1.0pre4~svn.20080409+dfsg.orig.tar.gz to pool/main/a/aspectc++/aspectc++_1.0pre4~svn.20080409+dfsg.orig.tar.gz libpuma-dev_1.0pre4~svn.20080409+dfsg-1_i386.deb to pool/main/a/aspectc++/libpuma-dev_1.0pre4~svn.20080409+dfsg-1_i386.deb libpuma-doc_1.0pre4~svn.20080409+dfsg-1_all.deb to pool/main/a/aspectc++/libpuma-doc_1.0pre4~svn.20080409+dfsg-1_all.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Version 4.3 has not been released yet but I'm building with a snapshot in order to find errors and give people an advance warning. In GCC 4.3, the C++ header dependencies have been cleaned up. The advantage of this is that programs will compile faster. The downside is that you actually need to directly #include everything you use (but you really should do this anyway, otherwise your program won't work with any compiler other than GCC). Some background of this can be found at http://gcc.gnu.org/PR28080 You can reproduce this problem with gcc-snapshot (20070326-1 or higher) from unstable. I didn't actually try it; a solution could be to just symlink phpgwapi/js/fckeditor to the externally packaged fckeditor, but: 1. egroupware uses an older version (2.4.1 instead of 2.5.1 which is in the archive) 2. egroupware is shipped with a file 'egw_integration.txt' for fckeditor; content: ,[ egw_integration.txt ] | Changes made to fckeditor to work properly on egroupware | - fckconfig.js | - Added egw_* toolbars | - editor/filemanager/browser/default/connectors/php/connector.php | - Change hardcoded image dir from Image -> images (to respect the actual | behavior in sitemgr) | - editor/filemanager/browser/default/frmresourcetype.html | - Again change Image -> images | - editor/filemanager/browser/default/connectors/php/config.php | - Commented hardcoded Userdir path | - Enable the browser | - editor/filemanager/upload/php/config.php | - Commented hardcoded Userdir path (is disabled by default) | - editor/filemanager/browser/default/connectors/php/io.php | - Remove the append of directory per type, example, for images the final | url is base+serverpath+images (or type) ` I'm not very familiar with egroupware and fckeditor but this information should be borne in mind, I guess. In order of preference: 1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments 2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging the upstream archive and adding 'dfsg' to the Debian package version name. 3. Move the package to non-free. Bug#475376: Source package contains non-free IETF RFC/I-D

Hm, I checked more carefully, and it seems RFC 1436 was published during the (legally interesting) time frame after the US signed the Berne convention (1989) and before the IETF started adding copyright notices and adding a license. The older RFCs referred to by that link, that may be in the public domain and thus acceptable, are those published before 1989. So RFC 1436 can thus not be claimed to be in the public domain since it was published after 1989. Right? Thus, it needs to have a copyright notice and be released under a DFSG-compatible copyright license. I don't think the above license is DFSG free, but I can't find a discussion about it. It doesn't look like a copyright license at all to me, and in particular doesn't grant you the right to make modified copies. Maybe we could bring it up on debian-legal? Bug#475340: aptitude install libqtcore4 seems to fix a similar issue too
Just did an aptitude safe-upgrade and many qt library couldn't be installed due to dependency problem. dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of libqt4-network: libqt4-network depends on libqtcore4 (= 4.4.0~rc1-2); however: Package libqtcore4 is not installed. dpkg: error processing libqt4-network (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured & similar aptitude install libqtcore4 fixed the issue. I hope it is the same bug or it helps to fix the one I had experienced -- Ivan Sergio Borgonovo http://www.webthatworks.it -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#475376: Obscure license of RFC1436
Hi folks, During the non-free-RFC purge, the question of the license of RFC1436 has arisen. In the forwarded message below, you can see that it does not bear an IETF copyright and states "Distribution of this memo is unlimited." However, Simon has raised some questions about the Berne Convention, which are frankly beyond my level of expertise. Any opinions here? -- John --- Begin Message --- John Goerzen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: > On Thu April 10 2008 7:45:33 am Simon Josefsson wrote: >> Severity: serious >> Package: pygopherd >> Version: 2.0.17-0.1 >> User: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >> Usertags: nonfree-doc rfc >> >> Hi! >> >> This source package contains the following files from the >> IETF under non-free license terms: >> >> pygopherd/_darcs/current/doc/standards/rfc1436.txt >> pygopherd/doc/standards/rfc1436.txt > > Are you sure? > > That file states: > > Status of this Memo > >This memo provides information for the Internet community. Hi, I've recently upgraded to kernel 2.6.24 as it moved into testing and installed the nvidia driver version 169.12 from unstable. So far, I have experienced no more freezes. Can you please see if the new kernel and the new version of the nvidia driver fix your problem too? I think this bug can be closed (and I hope nvidia finally gets into testing again...), but please feel free to speak up if the problem persists for you! -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#473131: dbconfig-common: diff for NMU version 1.8.37-0.1
hey guys, On Saturday 05 April 2008 02:02:55 am Stephen Gran wrote: > Um, > > that last umask was crack. This is actually correct. just fyi, there's a problem in the patch for teh sqlite version. if the dump command fails the new umask call masks $? and the error is ignored. also, ther'es a new codepath where umask might be set but not restored. i've imported the changes into a pending upload for unstable (so no need for another upload there), but if you're working on something for stable you might want to look at that. also, but less important, the new "old_umask" variables aren't scoped with a "local" declaration (this is also fixed in svn). thanks sean signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

So: * I learned how to create an sbuild chroot * apt-get source epiphany-gecko (the only step I knew) * renamed all instances of g_uri_get_scheme to g_uri_parse_scheme * Figured out I was looking for dpkg-source to get new .tgz and .dsc * Asked sbuild to package it (it got very angry, my chroot is far from perfect) * Found out g_file_contains_file has to be renamed to g_file_has_prefix also. * Rerun sbuild * Got a shiny working epiphany! * YUHU! I'm just writting this to let the world know what Really Loving Your Favourite Browser means. (And maybe opt-in for DeFuBu!) And, I'm almost sure there was an easier way to get it working without downgrading, but hey, I learnt lots of stuff! Cheers, Marc (PS: when runing sbuild as non-root how to make it not ask root password for apt?) -- http://www.marcfargas.com -- will be finished some day. signature.asc Description: Esta parte del mensaje está firmada digitalmente
